I see from the CSVN manual that it ships with an “East Asia” terrain set and that the orders of battle files for all nations included at this stage start in 1948.

On the basis of this is it correct to assume that it could be used to build scenarios from the Korean War that pit the Chinese against US, French, South Korean and Australian opponents ?

I was thinking in particular here of doing conversions of some of the scenarios done for the excellent Korean War mod done by “Warhorse” for JTCS.

Kind regards
Ian

Hi Ian

I think that idea is very possible. The org files are intact for 1950-52 so building the organization is straight forward in the editor. The maps will be the major undertaking and time consuming if it's a big map.

However, one might be able to copy the map from one game to another and thus it would open in both games. I haven't tried it but plan too.

The Korean War mod by "Warhorse" is pretty cool. There are a lot of great scenarios in that game!

Thank you the JTS squad battles game of the Korean war also has some interesting scope of micro scenario conversions I think.

I will be building the North Koreans for a future Korean War DLC.

But otherwise, yes, you can use the nations included to do so.

Although CSVN 1.0 will ship with East Asia graphics etc., so in theory you might attempt some Korean War scenarios, the graphics data set etc. are not yet polished. They will be when our planned KW DLC is released.

In other words, I would not say that CSVN 1.0 will be Korean War ready.

That's a good point, Berto. Another thing to consider are your playing preferences, Hoplite. The 2D "boardgame" maps are simpler and more forgiving and perhaps already now do a decent job.

Unless you want to depict battles in snowy conditions, there's still some glitches with 2D snow graphics I haven't had the time to flush out, as they are not a priority in CS: Vietnam.

That's fantastic! A seriously under-represented conflict in computer wargaming.
