A couple of questions from the peanut gallery from someone who, while not very active on the forum, really enjoys this game. These are meant as legitimate questions and I hope will not to be viewed as provocative. Perhaps the Moderators could take the time to respond.

1. Is the recent enforcement of what seem like evolving standards policies, by Moderators, based on real complaints from real Forum users? If so, how many? And on what sub-forum? Or is it driven more by today’s woke/politically correct culture? I have to say I find some irony in the suggestion that it is based on the goal of making the forum “more family friendly”. I am not sure how many “families” out there are actually interested in Grognard-level wargames.

2. The WITPAE sub-forum is, I believe, the most active Matrix forum. This is perhaps fitting as WITPAE is probably the most complex game on the site. I imagine most people are like me and rely on the forum for good advice and enjoy sharing information related to shared historical interest. Is it in the best interest of the Matrix, and the gamers who rely on the forum, for Moderators (some of whom seem to have taken up their duties only recently) to ban, suspend, or otherwise chase away the individuals (for reasons that may not have been well communicated by Matrix as red lines) who are in some cases the very ones that have kept this game alive over many years.

I get that it is a Matrix forum, and Matrix can run it the way they want. However, I hope moderators (and users) will take some time to reflect on the risks being taken now that may affect participation in a great game, and a great forum.

For only having 89 posts to your "credit" (and some posters seem to think that "high" numbers are important), you have hit a grand slam here. Well said ReadyR. The give and take of years gone by seems to have transformed itself into push and shove. I hope the divisiveness of our current political and social discord is not seeping into our forum. It is, as you say ReadyR, an important part of the game for many of us.

The thread was reported, because it was degrading into a new version of the Austrian Beauties thread and I agreed with the report.

That complaint was upheld and the thread was closed on that reasoning.

No-one has been permanantly banned, either. In fact, I've never given a full ban to anyone. But it is not ok to keep repeatedly opening the argument as to why we are no longer allowing pinups/sexualized/objectifying pictures of women, especially when they are posted precisely because they are that type of picture.

We have had this discussion many, many times since this policy was introduced and it never goes well.

If you wish to discuss it further, you are welcome to PM me, but as long as the policy exists I must enforce it no matter who the person is, how much they've contributed or however long they have been here.

Erik also offered up his email in the previous thread on this that got out of control, on this very subject and for the very same reasons.

I can only hope you understand our stance on this matter.

Edit: I do think that this forum is generally very good and I have been here for nearly 2 years now. Other than needing to PM people to tell them to change course, the need to directly intervene has rarely been necessary. It is a testament to the quality of the forum that I've been more "invisible" here than on Slitherine's main forum or on our steam forums.

But, we have been very clear that certain types of threads are not allowed. I hope you understand that and will respect our position.
