Hunkered down here in NC, waiting for a potentially significant ice story starting overnight. Coupled with very high winds tomorrow afternoon, .25 - .5 inches of freezing rain on the trees will make for some very dangerous roads and widespread power outages. We'll see how well our new development holds up on the power availability. In the development all the lines are buried, but it's overhead lines along the roads that bring the electricity to the development. That is where our vulnerability will be. We're ready with plenty of food and water, as well as the gas fireplace for heat if we need it.

Wait until you go to get in your vehicle which is covered in a quarter inch of ice! It takes forever with a hair dryer to melt enough ice to open the door! And if you don't have genuine snow brush with ice scraper, getting the windows cleared will take a while. Hint - you need something plastic that is strong enough to chip at it. Credit cards fold after a short period so see if your kitchen has a plastic utensil that will do it.

You can buy covers for the windshields to prevent the ice build up - or doesn't it get that cold and snowy where you are in Big Canada Land?

We know how to deal with it, but in North Carolina ...

Except that he used to live in SE Mint and Soda . . .

Sweden apparently also mobilized it's native production tank regiment to protect a local church . Good to see.

An attempt at sarcasm anyway. Didn't want to highlight the church, per se. That building is just one of a collection of, just as important, random objects surrounding this quite impressive swedish reinforced armored tactical battle group.

I'll add in a couple of 'good morning'-s for good measure. Although it's already late in the afternoon in Holland. Just 23 pages left to go.

And then there was the blizzard of 78....GP

That was something else. I was living in a suburb north of Boston, and the whole region was shut down for a week. All "non-official" vehicle travel was banned, so you had to walk everywhere. So many anecdotes, but maybe my favorite was that my girlfriend was in a dorm in Boston and after three days they were running out of food. There was a railroad nearby, so I walked to the tracks, flagged down a snowplow train (just the engine, no cars) and hitched a ride into Boston. They gave me one hour to grab the girl and return, which was a little tricky in the days before cell phones. But it worked out!

A point of dependency that can be exploited by enemies or natural disasters. Always have a backup system that does not depend on the same technology!

The Bv 206 (SUSV) was an export success, and is capable of transporting troops in almost all terrain. It is being slowly retired now as it has been is service for around years.

I suspect many countries still has it in use. Maybe even the US Army, or Marine Corps, still have some of them remaining in service?

They have been very helpful in assisting people who have been stuck in deep snow.

The sarcasm was splendid.

However, the main question remains. Even though I didn't ask it in my original post. What is the purpose of heavily reinforcing the amphibious invasion capacity in the Baltic sea?

I lived in Minnesota for 5 winters, so I'm well acquainted with dealing with it. But you guys have it all wrong. The cars are warm and dry in our GARAGE!

It's really pretty out right now, but the little bit of snow is now being covered by sleet and freezing rain. Over 40k businesses and homes without power currently in NC. So far, so good here. We had our French Toast for breakfast this morning. One cool thing to see is that the freezing rain is hitting and freezing on the outside of our windows. That tells me that almost no heat is escaping the house through the windows.

lol...I have carried a gun for about ten years now. Sometimes, I will run to the store for a quick in and out loaf of bread or something so I am like, "I ain't worrying about covering it up." Folks never even notice the gun. They are so absorbed in themselves that they have no situational awareness whatsoever...
