It's time to take down the list. I appreciate everyone that stepped forward to give my treasured books a new home.

Thanks all!

Thank you for the offer. I do have books to read but I would like more. The problem right now is that a 1 year old likes to chew on some books - even if it is just the dust covers. Who would have thought that a 1 year old cat would still be teething?

That is not teething...it is tasting. Wait till the toilet paper roll looks at the cat wrong and cat bites a chunk out of it.

Giving up your books Dan? I suddenly felt sad reading that.

I've got a 4 month old Jack Russell that eats books {on my Christmas present}. Two cats that cannot be trusted. And no room for the books I've got. Thanks for the offer. I hope they go to a good home.

That is one reason why I don't use the toilet paper holder for the roll. Also, it would be unrolled into the litter box but they would not use it to wipe . . .

All books now entered. I'll leave this open for a few days, then close it start shipping in next week or so.

This is my swan song on this forum. I've been here since 2000, owned and played everything from Pacwar to AE. Did development on AE, tons of scenario extensions (with lots of research for them), even hacked the PacWar and Uncommon Valor data files (don't tell Eric). It's been fun and now, to quote my favorite author, so long and thanks for all the fish.

Don,

I know you don't want people to reply to this thread but I can't not. Damn this makes me sad. End of an era.

You are one of the great ones around here a true class act and I remember you since my college days when I first got into UV and WITP. This game and this forum would not be the same without you and your vast knowledge and contributions and scenarios. So I just wanted to say thank you and godspeed sir. It makes me so sad to see you are leaving us.

You left a legacy here without equal. There will never be another team like the one that made this game. It is why I don't think another game like this will ever be made again...You are legend

Thank you for everything!

You all are too kind. I'll still be around for a few days until I close out the list of available books. Between now and then I think I'll poke around the forum and see if I can help here and there (or perhaps just cause some mayhem).

Hello Don, sad to learn that you retire from the forum. Thank you so much for all your work! "Don's Babies" aka DaBabes Mod will remain a lasting legacy. I for my part will never go back to stock scenarios again. Also thank you once more for the inspiration and the help you have given me for my "Bottlenecks" DaBabes spin-off, which is a feeble attempt to create a sort of Ersatz-"Zygotes" (I guess still no chance to get our hands on this personal mod of yours...?) - your invaluable input and generous advice will always be remembered. Fair wind and following seas!

Personally I wish you don’t leave the forum nor the game, we are all getting older and there are fewer of us left among the living and the war game knowledge will be sorely missed and lost. With that said, I retired from playing ASL in 2014 but still pop in to there forums once in a while the friendship forged 25 years ago last a lifetime, while my brain for storing and reading the ASL rules may not. Hence my switch to computerized Wargaming.

Thank you all for such kind words. I have not been very active on the forum for some time and I guess I thought my final leaving of the forum would only be of interest to a few old hands.

I do seem to have been a little brief in my comments (above) and I seem to have started some rumors. So, to be clear…

I’m not ill or infirm. I am just growing old. I’ve been deep into games about the war in the pacific for decades – starting with board games and progressing through ever more complex computerized games, ending with WITP Admiral’s Edition. I played a complete AI game from 1941 through 1946 using an expanded scenario that included Operation Downfall. Spent almost four years real time on it. I never seemed to have the time, and I guess the enthusiasm, to play again. A disastrous computer crash was the final straw. I visited the forum less and less and really stopped posting some time ago. This is just admitting it.

I’m not moving. I live in a small house in a retirement community with a wonderful woman and you ain’t blasting us out of here. It’s our gurney house – when we have to leave it won’t be standing up. But it is small and my office is stuffed. Too many bookcases full of old books I seldom reference anymore. 50 years ago I ate candy bar lunches to afford to buy them. Time to move on and to clean out my office. I just want my treasures to become someone else’s treasures.

I was never a part of the company Matrix. My association was through Henderson Field Productions – a wonderful group of volunteers under Joe Wilkerson that worked with Matrix to upgrade WITP into Admiral’s Edition.

Now I have other interests and soon a cleaner office with more room.

And finally, requests for books seem to have dropped off. I’ll close the list after the weekend. Don’t miss out.

Thanks for the clarifications of some of the things I misunderstood about your association with Matrix and your final homestead. I will add my gratitude for the things you have done for the game and the forum. Bards here will speak well of you for many years.

You have given all us another great lesson of life.Giving without ask. Many thanks for what you are still doing.

Me too are getting old and i can understand what you feel. I try not to extinguish at all the last barlume of the boy i was many many years ago but this is always much difficult every day goes on. I hope if you will not write at least you could read here from time to time. If only this will happen i will feel less alone here.

Don: Good to hear nothing drastic has happened. Hopefully you'll drop in once in a while.

I donated all of my actual fiction books about four years ago. I figure fiction works on Kindle just as well as well as a book--no maps or pictures, usually. When you live in 900 sq. ft. or less apartments almost your entire adult life you can't accumulate too much. I still have about four shelf-feet of Pacific War-related books, though.

Cheers,
CB
