Purchased using Paypal and had no problems. Download and installation worked perfectly. Playing through tutorials now, everything working as I would expect. Very smooth on graphics and all so far. I am very impressed. I would highly recommend this game

Thank you so much!! I really appreciate that!

Make sure you grab the interim update, it will fix the Bootcamp 4 map lack of labels.

Just downloaded the game as well as the update. Hopefully, can find some time later to knock out some of the Bootcamp scenarios.

Well done Jason and crew!

There's an update? I bought the game and it's version 1.00. When I "check for updates", it says I've got the latest version. When I go to the game in MY PAGE, it doesn't list an update. And in the store it doesn't mention an update. If there's an update, I haven't been able to find it.

BTW, nice touch dedicating the game to John Tiller.

No official update yet, but you can grab a collection of data file fixes (except for Binh Long and Bootcamp 4, mostly minor glitch fixes) here:

There's an interim update, or a patch, while we are putting together the actual 1.01 UPDATE. See HERE.

We hand off to the publisher, Matrix/Slitherine, at the designated cut-off date, typically two weeks before actual release date. But in the interim, and far into the future, the QA testing continues. There Will Be Bugs. You can count on it. But hopefully not many. We go to extreme lengths to QA the product. More on that some other time.

Got it now. It looks VERY beautiful. Fantastic graphics. Great job. I love them. Lovely detail, nice new AI. Everything looking very pro. Nice to have an optional 2d only exec, though it's true the 3d graphics are so nice they might even convince me. Thanks!

I note the scrolling is quite jerky on the very large maps, in 2d even. I'm on a ryzen 6 core, running at 3.6, with 32GB ram and everything on an ssd, a GTX 1080Ti card (11GB), on a 2560x1440 screen. Do you think that some jerkiness is normal, or might there be a setting somewhere I'm missing.

You could try turning off the labels, that would help, or if you have the hex coordinates on or things like that. Turning on the labels when you need them will speed things up.

Yes, you can try things suggested here:

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/fb.asp?m=5132002

quote:

  • Toggle OFF Options > Scrolling > Smooth Scroll.
  • Toggle OFF Options > Labels, showing map labels only when you need them. Commit to memory the ` (backquote) hotkey for this purpose. Labels slow down the map action fiercely.
  • Run the game via Vietnam_no3D.exe. That will diminish the graphics overhead tremendously.

  • I will make that a Tech Support FAQ.

That is the single best thing you can do to speed up the map action. Learn to use the ` (back quote) label toggle hotkey!

Thanks. That makes no difference for me - turning off the labels. Maybe I'm complaining about normal behaviour. It's not really laggy, just not fast. It's only the very large maps. It's like they would be scrolling 8 hexes at a time, or some such, whereas, an (in fact) slower scroll of 1 hex at a time would look smoother. Messing around with smooth scroll etc doesn't change it for me. I wondered if there was a setting somewhere controlling the amount of space it skipped when scrolling, if you see what I mean? But it's all ok. CSME is the same. As indeed are all my JTS (WDS) games - they look graphically light, as it were (not like the kinds of games my children play...) yet the graphics are still quite challenging, it seems. But don't worry. It's cool. Enjoying it. Thanks.

Also, can I ask, is it only those scenarios where it is specifically noted in the briefing/description that the scripting engine is used for the AI? The manual suggests it will say 'CS Event Engine Enabled' for these scenarios. If it doesn't say this then they don't have this 'enhanced' AI?

Even if not explicitly marked as such, every one of the 107 scenarios is SAI'ed (Scripted AI'ed) to some extent, some much more so than others. A fair number are scripted both Side A and Side B.

The tournament scenarios do not have any scripting (they do have event scripting though!), as they are intended for head to head play, but all the others are scripted - at least one side (typically Side B)

Very nice guys. I see that a lot of the later US kit that will be available when the planned DLC’s are released, such as F111’s, A10’s, AV8B Harriers, M1 Abrams and LAV-25’s APC’s etc. is showcased in the unit viewer. Also As its available in the time period of the game can scenario designers employ the Honest John artillery rocket as of now?

On the other end of the scale glad to see that the DKZ-B single shot 122mm rocket launcher is in the game. When I have finished my CSME unit picture mod I plan to do one for this game as well.
    Thanks very much.

    Kind regards
    Ian

Yes, I still have some OOB work to do for the USA to make them Cold War ready, but all the toys are there.

You can use the Honest John in the scenarios, but keep in mind their warheads have not been coded into the game yet - tactical nukes will come in a future game, aka Cold War.

I agree, it looks quite nice, and so far no technical issues really. I do have a question, though. In the second Boot Camp scenario, whenever I try to use an Engineer (of either type) unit to upgrade an Improved Position to a Trench, hitting the "Digging In" button (shovel) gives me a chime and a message to the effect that the hex already has an improved position or fort. I can't seem to find any other icons for any other sort of digging in, or anything trench-specific, hence I was not able to build any trenches. And, um, the VC overran my positions and killed all my guys.

Only the Construction Engineer can build Trenches. The other Engineer is limited to clearing mines/blocks and building Improved Positions only (and combat, where you do not want to use the Construction Engineer for Combat)

Couldn't say. Would need to get a save file demonstrating the Dig In issue to say for sure.

If its any consolation Wombat Bootcamp 2 gave me a kicking too :-). Morale of the story ..don't send the reinforcements including the vital howitzers through the boondock tracks to the NE to get to the airfield....it looks quicker....it aint.

What a great game though. So so impressed.

Ok, I think that was probably it. I had my construction engineers in the wrong spot. Makes sense. And yeah, I never even got my howitzers near the base. Lol. Charlie was damn aggressive too, made me think of those old war films.

Aww, that's great you're enjoying it!

Hahahah, yes, I swear all the bootcamps are winnable, I have achieved Major's in all of them.

But the randomness makes it a challenge!
