Lost a hex to the IJA tanks, but they are really shot...

First attack at Lashio, IJA Division and Regiment with some support...rebuffed. Got leadership prep...

Finally our Canton Invasion force is going in....lots to learn as an Allied player, I probably should have pulled this off at least one month earlier.

IJN is making an appearance, and we have two forward PBY bases to help with scouting.

Japan has 3 Naval Guard units present and one Aviation support unit (I think), the atoll has been damaged for a long time so forts 2 maybe? Not many engineers present...

No mines.

Invasion tomorrow....will there be a CV clash?

Invasion performs well. Relying upon our forward flying boats an IJN response was not expected, and indeed it seems that the Japanese were evacuating the island.

It is a big ocean....will pull back the capitol ships and move forward using smaller vessels...the goal is Tabby... and west to the Solomon Islands but putting at risk smaller ships only.

Baker is a very small atoll and can be suppressed by air power from Canton once it is repaired.

Will be rotating our main effort now towards Marcus Island and thinking about the Marianas.

Mines, PT boats, floatplanes will play a role in defense of our forward islands. The Americans are constrained by a lack of amphibious craft this early.

One tactic I didn't use during the invasion of Canton, was to have some bombardment ships merge with the invasion fleet after the first unloading phase. Something to remember for the larger invasions coming.

Always amazed at how far ahead you think things through - like the NS squads for a test post-invasion! Hope you let us in on the test results.

But where are the granddaughter pics!

Canton taken!

I would like to gets some PT boats up in the Gilberts, perhaps also down around Fiji and Pago Pago...perhaps even some small destroyer squadrons.

One damaged merchant ship...no clue on how it happened though. Naval Captain is 14 skill, and crew experience low.

Beautiful girl! The one with the dog reminds me how hard it was to keep our dogs from licking the newborn kids. Newborns seem to have something tasty about them!

That ship probably hit rocks during the landings - but that should be in the Ops report.

Weather in hex: Thunderstorms

Raid spotted at 15 NM, estimated altitude 9,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 4 minutes

No Japanese losses

Allied aircraft losses
B-26 Marauder: 5 destroyed, 3 damaged

Aircraft Attacking:
3 x B-26 Marauder bombing from 6000 feet
Ground Attack: 6 x 500 lb GP Bomb

A look at our supply and fuel depots, such that they are.

Happy with Cape Town.

Australia and NZ both solidly supplied, but not excessively.

Pearl has been light...until we get more escorts.

Panama Canal is quite busy.

Rapa has a bit of spoilage...but some Iboat attacks put a damper on that base till more ASW arrives.

The race is on...flying in troops to Lashio to help secure it, two Commonwealth Divisions are looking at wiping out 4 IJA units (two regiments + in a pocket to the north of Lashio...then they will secure Lashio while some move to defend Tuyun from the expected IJA armored divisions heading there.

Meanwhile we keep beating back the IJA in their three pronged assault (two prongs west of Sian & one west of Changteh).

Meanwhile almost all our originally disrupted divisions from earlier fighting south of Sian have returned to full strength rest and recuperation at Chungking.

SYDNEY: Your fuel looks low in Australia, only 61K at Sydney, which is usually where all the excess pools. I would want more fuel there for later operations. Make sure you have all the HI in Australia turned off.

COPAHEE: If that ship is in a replenishment TF, then nearby CVs can draw replacement aircraft if they are the same model. They can also do that if the replacement group is on land.

Me personally, I prefer to use those CVEs as just regular CVEs, using the extra units for training or whatever, but that's just me.

GETTING OLD: That IJN Surface TF is parked right at the exit box, correct? I personally think that's gamey, sound like you might agree.

Deathstar jigs to avoid a potential engagement....One of the things I like to do as Japan is hit the Allies after an invasion, as their forces are returning to base. Usually the path is predictable and the guard somewhat relaxed....

I have some amphibious tractors on fast transport to help with the Canton Island loading/unloading which will primarily be done with AMC and APD task forces.

Thanks, I will give the replenishment task force a go if only to experiment with it.

Sydney...been only shipping minimal fuel to Australia. No major fleet operations planned from there...although that will change in 1943. HI is off.

The exit box hex is only for task forces headed to Diego Garcia directly...I believe Banshees have the range to hit them.

Some developments, minor:

First Squadron of Night Fighters (US Army) is established in Australia. Only make the plane for a month, so can't squander them.

First B24 squadron upgraded in India. They will go to Ledo and bomb Chinese conquered light industry for a bit.

Still learning the Allied TOE and devices. Simply amazing already this early in the war. For example: The number of CD guns available is quite large, and I perhaps could have done a bit of a better deployment of them. I have them on Wake, lots in Australia, but could have used some on the British islands west of Ceylon...working to fix that.

You might already know this, but the pilot and aircraft from the Replen unit merge into the CV unit.
So If you use them in the Replen role you’ll want good pilots in them so you don’t end up with muppets on your CVs.

My understanding is that the VRF/B squadrons do not have to be in a replenishment TF (AOs/AEs) to do the replenishing. Even if they are on land, if they are in range of a CV that needs replacement aircraft of the same type, they will send them to the CV. This can be annoying if you are trying to use the VR squadrons in a operational role. I am also not sure if you can turn off replacements to the VR squadrons if you are trying to manage your carrier aircraft pools.
