Does the periscope of GUPPY work? She's at periscope depth and 1500 meters far from the CL but...
I want to ask also why the periscope doesn't appear in "SENSORS / EW" of the DB viewer(v491).

At one time, and I don't remember how long ago, there was an issue with older optical periscopes. I don't remember which db and how it was fixed.

This is stepping into my wayback memory machine, but older periscopes (ww2 era) had almost no magnification. I think the reason the periscope doesn't show up is in those sensor windows with older periscope designs, it was just left as Mk1 eyeball.

"The following requirements are for periscopes which have been used in submarines: field, at least 40 degrees to 45 degrees; magnification, between 1.2x and 1.5x; exit pupil, at least 5 millimeters in diameter; length, not specified; external diameter, 5 inches; thickness of walls, about 1/4 inch. Let us find possible periscope lengths under these conditions for the two magnifications given, 1.2x and 1.5x. The inside diameter of the tube is 5 inches minus 1/2 inch, or 4 1/2 inches. The lens, lens-holding ring, supporting tube, and so forth take up another 1/2 inch of diameter, leaving about 4 inches free for the objective."

So ran a test. I created almost a duplicate scenario between CWDB 492 and DB3K 492. An LA attack sub dated 1978 against similar sized USSR cruisers. Both times sub at periscope depth. Environment all equal. USSR ship dead still. Subs at 5 knots. Sub range to cruiser is 1500 meters.

CWDB - LA sub never detects the cruiser visually.
DB3K - LA sub detects cruiser immediately visually through a periscope.

I can't find a single CWDB sub with a periscope. I'm pretty sure this was brought up before. And I thought it was fixed. I'm not posting a save. Just open up the CWDB and you can see there is no way for a sub to detect a surface vessel through a periscope/visually.

I tried however the GUPPY surfaced and immediately detects the CL. It's not a matter of magnification. The periscope itself should detect the ship even without magnification.

Yes, as I said in my last post.
