Hi All! I've just made a quick scenario to practice OECM (my first go at the editor!). I have a Growler approach some SA-6bs with OECM off. I get an alarm telling me there have been two SAM launches when I'm playing BLUE side, and I can see the missiles in the air when I switch sides to the RED side. However, I cannot see the missiles when I'm playing BLUE (the Growler) and I get shot down each time. Why is can't I see those missiles coming at me?

a save file would be helpful
What is the weather? Is there a dense cloud that the Growler happened to stay in?

Skies are clear, but...it's night time. I just assumed a Growler's sensors would pick up the missiles even if it was night. When I changed it to day, the Growler made visual contact with the missiles. Thanks for your suggestion to check weather and consider the good old Mk1 Eyeball. That question has now been answered!

You are welcomed.
A visual contact of incoming missile is crucial for A/C's survival both IRL and in CMO.
Actually in CMO this plays a much more important role. Because the targeted A/C will not take any action with only FCR contacts. It will not get into evasion maneuverer nor release chaff until a weapon contact is confirmed getting close to the targeted A/C.
IRL different countries doctrine could be different, but I guess most of the pilots will take some defense action when they hear a FCR radar lock tone.

Growlers lack of MAWS. The AESA radar can pickup missile contacts in the front arc, but for the threats from side and rear, they must rely on the MK1 eyeball.

Not sure the model distinguishes between high plume missiles and low (yet) so there might not be a night time bonus to seeing them. Seems like it would be a good add someday.

The Growler doesn't have a sensor designed to track inbound missiles as such. Its ESM system can localize hostile RF emissions (like those coming from an active missile seeker head or the FCR of a SAM site) but that's about it. You generally need a dedicated MAWS (eg. AN/AAQ-37) to track missiles like this in real time.
