New ELO game started:

DmitryN (Allies) vs LoneRunner (Axis)

My first game using the new rules. I'm concerned about surviving Russia with the harsh first winter and low supply.

ELO Completed:

ThunderLizard2 (Axis) defeats arikogut (Allies) - Allies resign Nov '43 with Axis having taken Perm and on outskirts of Moscow. Allied landings in Netherlands pushed into sea and Brittany/Normandy landings contained. Axis has taken Chungking and is on verge of capturing Delhi. Allies making strong push in East Africa and nearly control convoy lanes to Russia.

ELO Completed:

ThunderLizard2 (Allies) defeats arikogut (Axis) - Axis resigned June '41 after unsuccessful SeaLion and Paul's coup leading to capture of Hungry. SeaLion is like shooting at the King - no room to miss. Axis almost capture London but not quite and with loss of units Barbarossa would have been difficult.

New ELO started (remtach):

ThunderLizard2 (Allies) versus arikogut (Axis)

Game 2: we go again

Game ended with Axis resignation in November 1942
Solid Axis play attacking the Arctic Convoy & Spanish Gambit but little progress in USSR and too timid in China
Allies took North Africa & Norway. Held all of Greece and squeezing Finland.

Allies win!
Totally outplayed, and made big mistake not taking Vichy. I have to concede in december 40 as there is not path to victory against such a player. I hope I will get another shot, Jackmck?

New ELO game started: DmitryN (Allies) vs petedalby (Axis)

I've lost my last 3 games as the Axis. I think the cumulative effect of all of the pro-Allied changes may have tipped the scales too far - certainly against experienced Allied opponents.

Game Ended
petedalby (axis) vs. calcwerc (allies)
Allies win.
Very enjoyable game until 1942. Early baltic raid surprised Axis, but gained little, as most of axis fleet was hiding. Japanese and German expansion very smooth and efficently played, especially Japan which knocked out China by early 43. Unfortunately for Axis, Egypt didnt fall, and Russia played deep defence, which is rather easy with all the new armies and sources of income. Murmansk and Vladivostok fell, but Leningrad, Moscow and Stalingrad were held. So I share Petes impression that game seems (slightly?) unbalanced in favour of allies just right now, or at least very hard to win as axis.

@ Earlydoors: short notice: played three games last month, 2 vs scoldgamer, me as allies, one against gpcgarag, me as axis, three wins :)

New ELO game begins:

EarlyDoors (Allies) vs petedalby (Axis)

The Axis shaded this match-up first time around. Likely to be much more challenging with all of the pro-Allied amendments.

Game ends with Allied Decisive Victory thanks to Japanese surrender on last turn in April 1947

UK won the Battle for Norway and secured the Arctic Convoy in 40/41
3rd Panzer Division achieved mythical status with 3 or 4 pages of Honors gained in North Africa
North African UK and Commonwealth forces resisted deep into 1942 with Cairo changing hands many times.
Attack on Pearl Harbour repulsed. IJN retreated only to return and successfully take the islands in 1944 with US concentrating on Torch and D-Day. IJN also surprised half the US Pacific fleet in the DEI.
Stubborn defence in Russia although Moscow fell in 1944 and Japanese conquest of Eastern cities.
Germany obliterated in 1945. 3rd Pzr was final unit to fall having been recalled to Berlin.
2 year logistical exercise to pivot towards Japan completed with no turns to spare.

Phew ... didn't think i was going to make it.

Thanks for the game Pete

ELO game completed:

Taifun (Allies) defeated KlasE (Axis).

Well played by Taifun. In every theater he had a good defence.

Game ended November 1941.
Sealion for the fourth time. UK were well prepared, and not until November 1941 there were no allied troops left defending the island.
Barbarossa was a disaster, too few troops.
US DoW on Japan in September. Japan had no time/MPP to prepare sneak attack on Hawaii, due to high increase of US mobilization +12%, and +13% the turns before (One of them probably because JPN was two hexes from Kweichow after the last update).

Thanks for the game KlasE. It was a pleasure to play with such a gentleman. Usually when the Germans launch SeaLion it ends badly for them as the Barbarossa invasion force is severely reduced: a dangerous situation. You played well in 1940 but the Soviets were unstoppable already in 1941!

I would like to inform in this forum about an ongoing game. Last December I started a game against ThunderLizard2 a well-known veteran player. We played an average of 2-3 turns per day for a month until things turned for the worst for the Allies. I was playing the Axis and the USSR surrendered in September 1943. He started several other games but I only got 1-2 turns peer week. The Allies were crushed invading France late 1943, he lost Hawaii and the AXIS had 3-4 times more planes and at least 2x ships the Allied fleet (all Allied carriers sunk but 1 CV and 1 CVL against no lost Axis carriers). With complete control of the Sea the Allies were in a desperate situation and I stopped receiving turns. I tried to contact him but got not answer. He even started new games.
Unless a reasonable explanation can be brought forward I find this behavior disrespectful and I consider the game as ended.

Hi Taifun - not sure why you're complaining here on the forum instead of contacting me. I returned a turn yesterday.

Sadly you are not the first person to experience this Taifun. Fortunately most players are not guilty of this behaviour. They either play on at the same pace or concede.

My personal theory is that it is about managing the rankings. Get quick wins vs new players whilst avoiding defeat against good or experienced ones.

ThunderLizard2 YOU ARE LYING: I had no turn yesterday. Thanks to other players feedback I now know that I am not the first one, that all you care about is your ranking. Listen, I have been playing SC a little longer than you and I can tell when a player is delaying the game on purpose. I have no time to lose with you in this forum. You can keep beating the new players and growing your score...
Sometime you win others you lose but we are here to enjoy because we love this great game.
Our game is finished. You lost. Take care, now everyone knows you. Enjoy your score.

Easy. Calm down.
Technically, speaking, players have 30-days to play a turn. Then the game expires.
Realistically or practically, I draw my own lines in the sand.
Maybe your Yesterday, is his Tomorrow. GMT-Time.
Send direct messages and keep inbox working by deleted old stuff.

Far as rankings. The rankings are not tallied correctly. It's NOT even close to a real ladder system. There's nothing about the skill of opponent. While back I posted my own rankings.
I'm in last place, but no way am I piece of trash. I racked up like 20 losses playing Hamburger Meat, Cpuncher, some IOCPI Russian dude that was flawless.

-EJR

I'm so hurt to think that you lied to me
I'm hurt way down deep inside of me
You said our love was true and we'll never, never part
Now you've got someone new and it breaks my heart

I'm hurt, much more than you'll ever know
Yes darling, I'm so hurt because I still love you so
But even though you hurt me like nobody else could ever do
I would never ever hurt you, oh you, no you

All i can say it's a bit sad with such heated arguments on the forums.

I have played both Taifun and Thunderlizard, and felt they were both fair and accomplished players, who also have been constructive in contributing to the development of the game. I have really enjoyed Taifuns AARs (I was his first victim in one of them :)). Thunderlizard has so many games, and I feel it is understandable if it less enjoyable to play out a game he lost. Surely he would agree that it is better to concede, but I remember winning against him and that he still played to the end - for some players that is also a code of honour (not for me, if I see that there is no winning path, I will concede. At least I hope I always did?).

I do think the presumption that Thunderlizard only plays newbies to stay high in ranking a bit unfair. To improve, you have to play players who are better than you, but actually it is good to play players who are slightly weaker also, since you can test new strategies. It is my impression that Thunderlizard plays both kind of players, I remember detailed reports about games against Fafnir recently.

To play as ELO games is first and foremost a kind of guarantee that you will not be ghosted (I get ghosted in pretty much all games which are not ELO). Ranking is fun, but we all know that Rambo shouldnt have the weakest spot, and HamburgerMeat is ranked far too low.

Hope you guys can sort this out over a virtual cup of coffee - privately ;)
