I've just been tooling around looking at some stuff only to realize that:

-The Sentry AEW was retired last year - OK it was getting old but...
-The Sentinel was retire last year - this was almost new by most measures...

Is there anything left in the RAF that can do AEW?

Nothing in the RAF, at least until the E-7 Wedgetails start to get delivered in 2023. But that order has been cut from five to three...

As far as I know (knew), the Sentinel was only for SAR / GMTI work and not AEW.

OK thanks guys, wasn't aware of the Wedgetails coming.

The Rivet Joints are also SAR/GMTI so was that why the Sentinel was cut?

Got the Crowsnest and they are for the two CVs I think

The RJs are primarily for SIGINT but I think you're correct about them having some of that ability, albeit not like the dedicated JSTARS. The MQ-9B Protector, P-8 MPA and even the F-35B can probably cover many of the Sentinel's former roles once they're in service and at FOC. Only the latter will be able to operate in a non-permissive environment.

The Crowsnest is a fairly interim program given a predicted out of service date of 2029. it only entered full operational service in 2021.
Have not searched for the prospective replacement yet.
