Been a while since I visited aircraft R&D. Did a forum search but most goggle hits throw up ac research and not engine research.
IIRC, Jap R&D engines operate differently from R&D ac factories:

1. RD Engines repair once per day, no dice rolls (if there are sufficient supplies at the base)
2. Rather than produce 1~3 research points per day as in R&D ac factories, RD engines produce "research engines" as per their ratings
a. A size 30(0) R&D aircraft factory produce 1~3 points depending on RND(30) rolls
b. A size 30(0) R&D engine factory produce 30/30=1 point per day.
c. A size 300(0) R&D engine factory produce 300/30=10 point per day.

Is the above correct? If not, which part did I remember wrongly?

Can confirm 1 and 2b.
2a is a hard no. A size 30(0) R&D aircraft factory produces 1 point per day, or 2 with engine bonus.
2c I don't know but expect not. I leave all R&D engine factories at size 30 until they enter production, then expand them to the production level at that point.

2a is a hard no. A size 30(0) R&D aircraft factory produces 1 point based on a formula that depends on how far away the production date is.

My understanding is that "how far production rate is" affects chance of repair of a damaged R&D ac factory.
Only fully repaired R&D ac factories produce R&D points.

In the manual folder there's a production addendum. That may have the answer you need....GP

You are right on that formula applying to repair it to 30(0).
Edited above, to say once it is 30(0) it produces 1 research point per day, or 2 with engine bonus.

The basic differences between researching engines to a/c are, it's one point per turn repair with no die roll and they need to be fully repaired. You still need 100 development points to advance the R&D engine, 30 sized factory is the optimal size with >10k supply.

Once the engine goes into production you need to expand. Why! a/c research that uses that engine get a bonus if the engine pool has >500 engines in it. Thats per factory.
