Can destroyed units be rebuilt?

Not that I know of. I suspect events were moving so quickly that units that under normal circumstances, could have been rebuilt quickly, were not. For example in Normandy, the Canadians had a number of battalions destroyed when they were hit by those SS divisions. Those units were rebuilt very quickly from replacement pools-within a day. Maybe poor cohesion but rebuilt. Usually kept in brigade reserve until they were felt fit for combat. However the situation was not a breakthrough, frontlines moved back and forth but relatively stable.
