Steel Panthers World At War Bug Repository I wanted to put this on the net so I don't have to keep plastering it everywhere... If it's missing something, let me know. If Matrix or someone else wants to put a link to it, go right ahead.

Do you have any idea how much time and effort it would take to fix everything you listed. I know for a fact that some of the problems can't be fixed unless routines are completely rewritten. I feel like matrix is getting to bogged down with this old freebie game and possibly there new superior products might suffer. I don't want to see this happen so I am against any radical changes in SPWAW. They have allready gone far above and beyond the call of duty on this one.

D'oh. No, I don't expect them to suddenly magically fix these, it's meant to be just a collection of ideas and comments from the forum and myself to represent the direction the game/sequel could take. And of course, to keep track and collect info on bugs.

Fine Job Kharan, keep up the good work!! heres a bug you missed, In current pbem game I have going, my opponents units, that were not visible to me during my turn, suddenly become visible when HIS planes fly over. and im sure alot of us will still be playing SPWAW for a long time to come, for those who just want matrix to ignore it from now on ;) [ July 31, 2001: Message edited by: Alby ]

Yes they have made themselves the definitive Steel Panthers game here. Remember though that I'm a modern warfare person fighting in WW2 equipment. How I long for a Eryx anti tank missle. I was crushed by the demise of SPMW,still am for that matter, but I accept the fact that it wasn't possible. Now it seems that Combat Leader is taking alot longer than first anticipated. It looks to me that it will be at least a year before we see that first modern module for Combat Leader. :(

Thanks for the thought.I really didnt care for SP2 when I tried it.I'll check it out though. I do look forward to the new Sp3 Moderna game that Matrix is currently working on. But Combat Leader and all its possiblilities is certainly at the top of my list.

Look at the list of discussion boards, you will see one for the new SP3 Mod they are working on,in effect they are further expanding Moderna that you know into something even better. Ilja is heavily involved in the project. :) [ August 01, 2001: Message edited by: MacCready ]

*skips reading large portion of Kharan's page and most of the petty squabbling in this thread* Some guidelines on discussing change-- Making a website in which you get to post all of the things you think are wrong with the game does no good. The way I feel it should be done is people need to bring these topics up HERE, one at a time, and let people hack away and fight over them. Making a little website in which your particular opinion rules may make sure that you get heard, but it will not fascilitate the developement of good ideas, neither will it make your ideas very likely to get accepted or acted on. And many who have posted here are right-- there are some bugs or "fixes" that are simply not important enough for Matrix to divert their time towards. They do a very good job, and remember, this is a FREE game. I'm not against discussing these things and perhaps even getting a few of them fixed, but one at a time, and HERE IN THE FORUM, where all can jump in and comment.

I'm sure Matrix is perfectly capable of allocating it's resources without us doing the thinking for them. And since it'll be a few years before CL/CA can do all the tricks SPWAW can (since they have to start from scratch), the best situation would be continuing small-time development of SPWAW to keep people aboard while the new games are cooking, time and resources allowing.

Well, Im with kharan, i think his list really summarize all spwaw weak points. Despite all the work of spwaw and its unique qualities i think they made some mistakes. They spent far too much time on trying to improve single player mode against the computer. Its completely useless i think, playing against a ridiculous AI is not interesting, for me SPWAW is a multiplayer game, especially on PBEM. So why do they spend so much time on those campaigns? Im sorry spwaw is certainly a great game but it still have absurd elements in it that didnt go away from version 1.0. But of course rewriting the whole system would mean a complete new game then... Oh well im sure matrix will surprise us ounce again!...

Sigismund: I'll have to disagree with you there. The AI doesn't melee nor overrun, at least that I've seen, nor have the campaigns been given larger maps, which if I recall correctly cannot be done in SPWAW. As well, the point system allotted for upgrades is way too high, while there's no delay in battles for upgrading everything at one time (not a whole lot of strategy in upgrading IOW). There is also the issue of reduced ammo never lasting past the first battle, so if anything campaigns are suffering. As dramatically as you think AI and campaigns are a waste of time, realize full well that NO game will ever make any profit where there is no AI. There just aren't that many people who can plop down with someone across the country, and they both feel like playing for hours on end, much less be able to do so in peace very long. Most people I know would rather play a mediocre game of something, than to watch the most excellent game played and raved about by others. No AI leaves an awful lot of people out.

Hi, Were probably both right... But still its IMPOSSIBLE to program an AI that could work for every scenario. Of course an AI is needed but matrix should any progress on this matter now, at least for me. We dont really disagreee on the rest i think. Spwaw is as dull as death against the computer and awfully fun on PBEM.

Sigismund: I don't know. You ever play campaign long enough for some of your men to become Ubermen? That's a blast. As well, campaigns are a lot more fun when you're campaigning with the likes of Hungary and such. No matter how bad the AI is, you're going to have trouble there and you still get the thrill of possibly getting a Tiger later. The neat thing about campaigning with most nations, is that you go through periods of ineffectiveness and effectiveness, but with Hungary against the USSR, it's an uphill climb all the way. I can't say as that I've ever tried that, but going with less than the best is a step in that direction for a lot of us, particularly since the campaign is so liberal in giving replacement points.

Yes ok... But AI is still a laugh when on attacking... Campaigning could be organized in PBEM mode though, bt you need some kind of home-made rules... Well to stay in the subject for me spwaw only needs a few major changes: -logical retreat, no more smoke used for nothing. This one is very important. -on pbem logic counter-fire: no more rifles on a tank. Gameplay would really be improved and i dnt think it needs a complete recoding of the game. (Im not an expert though) These changes are vital i think they really bugger me.
