I came across the tank crew bug last night and started thinking. What if you move your tank crew from a lost tank to another abandandend tank. Well nothing. But it would be nice if the crew could take control of the tank. Even better still they could capture enermy tanks and use them, and keep them in campaign games. I think the main issue would just be one of rapair which possibly should be double cost for captured tanks to reflect the limited amount of spares. This would be great finishing touch to the game that I thing would only need a minor bit of tweeking to allow and as we all know all sides did use captured tanks and other weapons.

resupply? Sort of encouragement to penetrate deep into enemy lines, and "resupply", at their depots, right? :-)

intresting point, I wonder how they did in real life. I would guess it depends on the gun, 88's would be a problem to the allies. Maybe start with only half shells in capturred tanks. Looking at the OB there are some instancers of available units. Leaving the captured issue asside, a tank crew recovering another tank of their own should not be an issue. ie.

If you capture enough of a particular weapon manufacturing the ammo yourself is worthwhile but not for the odd gun picked on the battlefield. Use it for a couple of shots but when its ammo runs out abandon it. So I don't think we should be able to acquire enemy weapons and the add them to core units during campaigns

You ever look at the North Afraca Campaign. Their were times when the Germans had just as much British equipment as they did their own.

If you capture enough of something to equip whole units fine but supply would be a nightmare if every unit had a single captured tank/gun amongst its regular gear. Incidentally if you do want to use Matildas and Valetines while playing as the germans you can with the Russo German Ed of SPWW2

Playing devils advocate, but is this a realistic option? Or just a Hollywood dream! I can go with crewing own equipment. But think it through. Your crew will be pretty shook up after having their own platform shot out from under them. Then to try and jump in a strange vehicle, with a completely different layout, guages and dials in a different language, even a different alphabet. Ok with an hour or so in a quiet area the crew would be able to work things out to make effective use to the captured platform, but surely that is outside of the games scope?

In a singel battle yes but in a campaign game this would be a really cool mood enhancer. But crews that abandons ther vehicels should try to blow it upp before capture by enemies. Come to think about it thats something i would like in the game. Isn't it SOP to try and blow your tank up in cearten situations. ------------------ Mvh Daniel E. IIRC it is SOP if capture of the vehicle is imminent. The US Army had an 88 regement, they used captured stocks of ammo to keep it suplied. Haupt

Again then, perhaps this supports more the argument for more captured equipment in the OB's rather then letting dismounted crews take over an abandoned enemy platform

I think the other issue with captured weapons is not to let it get out of hand, like in Panzerd Genral 3d where I had nearly all german tanks when playing allies.
