Searching the web for more (any) information covering the South Pacific campaign, I came across a website from the South Pacific Regional Environment Programme. From their site:

"The South Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), under its Pacific Ocean Pollution Prevention Programme (PACPOL) formulated a Regional Strategy to address the issues related to World War II wrecks in the Pacific. The SPREP WWII Shipwrecks of the Pacific database currently stands at 3855 vessels sunk in the Pacific region during World War II. This equates to over 13 million tons of vessel sitting at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean." --edited by me

They have this excellent graphical interface where you can click on a geographic region to see what was sunk and where:

Very interesting stuff. - the site is a little slow, but well worth it.
