A LOOONG time ago, I asked if there was ever
going to be a "zoom" feature in SP: WAW for those
of us with 14 inch monitors. You replied "there won't be another major version" And now, I see you've released V 6.1!!!!!!!!!!!! %%$!%$^%!^%^-ing liars!

Well version 7 is right behind it, and .. it won't have any more zoom levels either! So we lied that we would stop supporting the game and decided to fix a few more bugs and do a couple things afterall, but we have told the truth and not added any zoom levels... TO add a zoom level means creatinga new set of EVERY graphic in the game...we spent the effort on making a whole new class of graphics for the new Combat Leader game.

Ryan, the guys at Matrix are still releasing improvements to an already great FREE product, adding more features & bells & whistles, and you're COMPLAINING? I hope you were joking, and if you weren't, then lighten up, bro, and enjoy the effort these guys have put into this. I think you'd be better off looking at the great posts we've had about game play & tactics, offer some constructive criticisms & comments if you have any, and be a positive contributor to the best wargaming community on the web. Whiners are not generally regarded too highly here. Think about it.

No you don't. Only if you want everything to
look ultra-sharp and crystal clear. Did anyone
ever try out the HIGHEST level of zoom in SimCity 2000 or Civilization 2? What really POs me off is that you keep adding
more and more stuff, but keep NEGLECTING the
14" inch crowd. Not a lot of us have the money
needed for a new 17" monitor... Which is why incidentially, I HATE Pop Top
Software for Railroad Tycoon 2. They made it so that you NEEDED 1028x764
resolution to play it, effectively locking
out a large portion of the gaming public:
those with 14" monitors.

I play on a 15" monitor from time to time and find that although small...it actually makes the graphics seem even sharper and smoother..

You mean all this time I HAVEN'T been playing SP:WAW and RRT2 on this 15" monitor of mine?!?!?!?! Man...wonder what I HAVE been playing, then... Say....anyone got a VGA card around? I'll bet Ryan would appreciate getting out of the monochrome world....

I went to a little store on the corner and bought a 15" monitor for 50 bucks Canadian. about 35 bucks US. Of course, ahem, I did too get a TNT2 video card, but it was a year back and they are a lot cheaper now. You don't have to get an AGP board either, the TNT2 and the voodoo 2 can be got still as PCI. Which is a joy for some of us stuck with older boxes. It is a real drag having little money and there are many folks who have very little money and don't wish to explain that sort of personal thing here. You could get a 15" for cheap somewhere and save a bit of money each payday until you can put in a better video card... 800 x 600 is game graphics for SPWAW anyway, so you could play it without a new card but WITH a brand new second hand 15" monitor. Sorry

Ryan, Your eloquence in requesting support for your montitor situation, and in expressing your frustration speaks for itself. Clearly you've had a long time to stew over this, as the mail list was dissolved over a year ago, and you've apparently not expressed your concern recently. There are so many lower quality games - ones that AREN'T free and that don't support older equipment - that for you to engage in profane name calling towards the creators of a FREE, high-quality product simply because there is not a zoom level to fit your personal situation seems, IMHO, to be the epitome of whining. Sincerely, Mike Oshiki

Sorry if I got a little hissy at you guys. It's just that I feel that you have missed out
on several of the ORIGINAL Steel Panther's features, such as a higher-zoom level, and
faster battles. In SPO (Steel Panthers Original), you could
turn off virtually all the animations so you
could fight a 30 turn battle in about 30 minutes,
making the game accessible to those with not
a lot of time on their hands. In SP WaW, they added that feature as
an unsupported command line feature,
and it doesn't work as well Perhaps for WaW 6.2 or 6.3, you could finally
mitgrate that command line feature to the
in-game option screen and expand it more? The zoom level feature was quite useful for
those of us on 14" inch montitors, allowing us to see every tank/infantryman in glorious detail... [yes, I really miss seeing close ups of my Panthers. :sob: ] [ September 01, 2001: Message edited by: Ryan Crierie ]

Way to go! I also run a 14" monitor at home and even play with icon size3 (the smallest) and it works just fine for me. ________

All along I though we game players had among the best or at least the most updated computer in the world. Are u sure u cant afford a 17 inch monitor.....You pay the transport bill, I can send my old one to u..I am using a 19 inch. A game created cannot make everybody content. If you are angry only on the graphic, I think we here had more...but we should be content with it. There arent any more good hex game around this few days....Name me a few good hex turn base game still around and constantly update or upgrade the game..... Only one phrase for you "You are one ungrateful XXX of a XXXXX".

Gee, David, I really hope the target audience for Combat Leader is NOT a 14" monochrome monitor probably running DOS with 8 meg of RAM :;....Man, you guys at Matrix are great to be able to address all the techno-hardware issues around!
Will there be switches in the game to allow people to play on DOS, Win95, Win2k, WinXP,Linux?? How about a Mac? And how about all of us FORTRAN users? Will there be a Commodore 64 version?
Ryan, pick through your local dump and you'll probably get your choice of at least a dozen or so 15 inch monitors...listen to some of the advice listed above...like buying a 17 inch for under a hundred bucks.... I've seen my share of whining on these forums, but frankly this takes the cake...... Out, Joss

And why can't I play it on my wife's 486-100 with 16 megs of ram running Win 3.11? If having a 14in monitor is your only problem, count yourself a lucky man. And yes I lie, in the bed every night. (Unless I'm on a plane.) troopie

Now Joss I didn't say anything about supporting 14" monitors. But the zoom feature is looking very good.
