Innitial Run. XP system love the game!

problem:
A Combat screen opened with sound, Black, no options and buttons.

Solution:
Hit escape and canceled exit. That worked the first couple of times.
Once required Task Manager to end Task

Played about 5 hours, this occured 5 times. I will try to log conditions as I find them.

Problem:
Autoscroll too touchy. hard to control.
Solution:
use arrow keys... Even with arrow keys, autoscroll would jump me across map while reaching for button. Maybe a toggle for autoscroll or defined scroll areas!!!

Problem:
Could not attach Any Army commander to a Corps. the corp would move on with out them.
Solution: None - no work around, except to hand move the army commander. (not cool)

Ok, I fixed the attachment problem. I'm looking for the combat screeen problem. Can I ask what scenario this was? Also, if it repeats is there any chance I could get you to send me the "autosave" file that's generated?

Thanks!

1805 scenario - Austrian controlled Single player, both enemy fog of war.
full campaign and historical. as best as I remember...

I will try to recreate and get it to you ASAP (after work) For some reason they frown on that here :~)

I will go through it with a fine tooth comb over the weekend... We can go from there.

The area I was going to check (I wasn't sure if it was an error)

When I chose e-mail (1805 France PBEM) I clicked to send e-mail.. Crash, game gone!
or so it seemed I will verify... two hours

Got and been playing around with the game and echo MarkT's comments about scrolling the map: It's very jerky and haphazard (sometimes it doesn't move, other times it flies by). I haven't tried the cursor arrows but I do use the minimap sometimes. Any way to make this a little smoother?

I like the look of the game and am playing around trying to discern the gist of the exercise w/o studying the rulebook...

Thanks Mark, I'm running the save now. Just had the battle between Lannes and Werneck. No problem. Has that been repeating for you? Do any other battles produce that error? Any particular battle tactic? I'll keep trying to reproduce it. Thanks!

Played French 1805 first- headlong assault by ney, Lannes, Murat, Soult into ulm. 12 continuous battles till scenario closed at Munich. No errors. ??? Lannes, Soult, Murat, Ney, all led french All allied except Mack led Allies.
I used every attack button... nothing. last try to nite will be Austrians defending east of ulm and north of Munich... Then done for the night.

Nothing. Killed alot of french and austrians in 10 major battles nothing!!!

It seems to narrow down to The French side 1805 first scenario.
Tomorrow I will check site then go again.

Mark (whoa 5 hours of poor tactics) yawn...

Frank,
Daytime now, (I think) Refought those battles all night..
On to business.

1. Error in display Click on [Retreat point] after setting objective. Text at top is messed up (overlapping). That is consistant!

2. Attack screen, click the [Frontal Assalt] button. Text message below says "Overall plan is Withdrawal". Went to test that in the next battle, clicked the [Withdrawal] button
BLACK SCREEN.

3. Attack Screen "rarely" does not show opposing forces usually allies. i.e. No pieces in window. can't duplicate

On to Black Screen...

4. Played 1805 - France - FOW = Enemy 7 times.
First was a charm - Black Screen 1st battle.
Here is the exact strategy I use "consistantly" and in sequencial order.
Lannes - to 4,15, retreat to 4,14, Urgency Forced, Stance Hold, Send Orders
Ney - to 6,15, retreat to 4,14, Urgency Forced, Stance Hold, Send Orders
Murat - to 4,15, retreat to 4,14,Urgency Forced, Stance Hold, Send Orders
Napoleon - 6,9, Supply 6,9, Operations 6,9, Hospital 6,9, Supply computer
Soult - to 11,13, retreat to 6,9, Urgency Forced, Stance Hold, Send Orders
Davout - to 16,12, ret to 13,10, Urg Forced, Stance Engage, To Guns, Send Orders
Bernadotte - to 19,11, ret to 13,10, Urg Forced, Stance Engage, To Guns, Send Orders
Marmount - to 23,10, ret to 17,5, Urg Forced, Stance Engage, To Guns, Send Orders

"If" Lannes gets into position, he is usually assalted by a sizable force. in this case
Lannes 46 47 8 Kienmyer 19 8 4 I chose counter charge Black screen

I tried to abreiviate this but results changed. Especially movement order.

Playing using XP home. Playing first scenario. One problem that I encountered but the game doesn't stop or hang. Accessing Lannes who has pretty much been knocked off with no subordinate units left. When I select Lannes and view units is selected the error message "List Index out of bounds (0)" appears. I select another corp and the view units icon is still selected but when I click on it I get that Corps divisions and the game proceeds. As I said it's not a show stopper but just felt I should report it.

John,
Ihaven't yet hit that one, and I have beat the first scenario silly. Played it about 50 time since Thursday. Can you duplicate it?

Just a quick note to let you know I saw the black combat screen MarkT reports. It only happened once early in the "Ulm and the Danube Campaign" Scenario, solitaire as coalition, with Enemy FOW for both sides (I think).

The trick seems to be to duplicate it. It mostly happens when Lannes is involved.
I have come close to duplicating circumstances 3 times in 70 attempts. But no cigar.
The onlt time I can quarentee it will happen, is when I decide to play a game for fun.
I'm still trying... If you can get it to duplicate let me know (or Frank)

I have had the same problem as Mark T (black combat screen). Appears to be at random. I'd guess about once every 20 combats. I was only able to get out of it once. Other times I had to restart. I have started resaving before every few combats.

I've seen this black combat screen in several scenarios. I've found that letting it sit for several minutes will 'fix' it...seems it's getting stuck 'thinking' about something.

My son was playing last night, for a few moments... he also got the screen. He kept alt- tabing and finally got it going.

I've had the blank combat screen too. Seems to happen when I give "Withdraw" orders to small, e,g, less than 25, forces when they are faced with much larger (40+) forces,

I will try running some scenarios along these lines. So far, I have blown away ANY commonality to reproduce this. It happens as if a random number has been generated.

I will keep trying
