Something I only just realised.

It was a bit of a surprise to find that the native screen resolution used by the game is 1024x768.

My thoughts on this, is that whilst with a large screen CRT this is easily manageable (though a chore) owing to non-native resizing flexibilities, I'd really recommend catering for a more modern screen norm in the future.

17 inch LCD's now run native at 1280x1024. The decision to run at 1024x768 will pose a serious challenge for those running LCD's larger than 15 inches.

Adanac my want to look at this from a series longevity pov, as many computer stores are ridding themselves of CRT's and 15 inch LCD's are facing stiff resistence from the newer and cheaper 17 inch versions - which by the year's end will be the hardware benchmark. The new Samsung 17 inchers as 12ms refresh outperform the best 15 inchers at 16ms and make a very cost effective CRT replacement.

I think the current fixed 1024x768 resolution needs to be clearly listed in the game's features here and I am a little perturbed by it as it's only occured to me, that I will not be able to play the game native, on my new LCD based system soon coming.

Adam.

I don't think that's a good idea. It's much easier to run a big monitor at a lower resolution then to have a small monitor run at higher resolution. To make it simple, my own monitor is only 15", less then a year old and can't resize to 1280 by 1024 resolution. Personally I prefer high resolution, but this piece just can't deal with it

Marc aka Caran...

P.S.: I bought this computer solely to play games. Before last year my main computer was a Mac with a much larger monitor (I used to play Matrix games under Win98 emulation, but as of UV that no longer was an option), I simply could not afford anything more for what ammounts to a high quality game console.

I seem to be following you around

Adjustible resolution would be great.
2" Icons bother you???

But for us old geezers with bad eyes, 1024x768 is cool.

I would have to agree with higher resolution support. Or even a scalable map. For me it would make planning a little easier.

I also think being able to run it at a higheer resolution would be a help. The it would be nice if the amount of map that is on the operational map was larger.

I concur, its a pain when playing on my 1280x1024 native res laptop and it just sits in the middle of the screen :(

Otherwise excellent :)

Cheers

It is a bit weird in this day and age for a game to only support one resolution. I just got the game, but the first thing that struck me is the fixed resolution. Thankfully, I have a 22" CRT and it is not a problem to change resolution.

I fully support the idea of adjustable resolution, but I don't think ficed 1280 x 1024 is a good idea - many would not be able to play the game.

By the way if you play games CRT is the way to go. Faster refresh, adjustable resolution and a lower cost. Really, the only drawback is desk space.

"17 inch LCD's now run native at 1280x1024."

But can you read the text at that size? I have a 19-inch CRT and set it to 1152 by 864 pixels, which I find fairly comfortable.

I agree that a single fixed resolution is something of a disadvantage in any program, especially in the longer term.
