Hello Gentlemen -

Well after a few more delayed and put-off deployment dates, the powers that be finally called off the Afghan mission for my Dad's unit.

They kept us on our toes for over a year about this and finally just said heck with it, I guess.

It is good news, though, because Dad won't be going anytime soon. He is still eligible for deployment for another year or so, so do keep him in your prayers.

I've attached a photo of me and Dad from last year when me and my brother were playing our accordions for some relatives. It's hard to believe that that gentle-looking man in the picture has killed God knows how many men, fought for two years with the toughest guys in one of the toughest outfits in the world, endured combat, malaria, harrowing night patrols, snipers, mines, jungle diseases, still bears bayonet, shrapnel, and bullet scars, and still carries bits of shrapnel in his body. That's my dad, who's served his country since he was 17. He continues to serve by helping solve murder cases in Orange County, Texas as a Captain in the Criminal Investigations unit. He also has raised four boys and a girl, and is enjoying his third grand-daughter, who was born two weeks ago. He's a world-class man and is my greatest hero.

Thanks to all of you guys for your kind words in my original post about the deployment, and thank you as well for your support and well-wishes as I jump off the deep end with the SHPs.

Thanks,
Matt.
