This one is easy for me--sound 504, a BAR doing single shots--it's loud and definitive. A close second is the M1 Garand, sound 501. American weapon sounds in this game are generally clear and sound great. What weapons do you guys like to hear in SPWaW combat?

That's a tough one!! They're all great! But if I had to chose, I guess I like the 50 cal HMG. Knowing that baby can dispatch almost anything is a mighty comforting feeling!!! And even though I like to play the U.S. I have to admit that the German 88 sounds pretty damn cool too! Except when I'm on the receiving end!!

I like the mortar sounds, specifically the 120 mm German mortars (probably shared by other mortars). I guess it really is a series of sounds, but the rythm of the um um umph um umph blam blam blam
is satisfying in some primal kind of way.

Man KG this isn't fair!! There are so many.

Yep, most of the U.S. weapons, and the German 88's are great.

Gotta love those Russian Katyusha Rockets though, freaking WOW!

Also, since I think most people play with fast arty on, (I know you, like me Gunny play with regular arty on), they miss alot of amazing ambience of the shelling and it's after effects as it fades back into the distance!

Man there are just too many to mention, and I know i will forget to list alot of them!

Lastly, I just love the background combat sounds when nothing is happening!

Oh yeah, as God is my witness, that bloody howling of the desert wind in MCNA, will be with me forever, even after I'm gone, until time itself comes to an end!

JD

John David, if I ever need to call upon someone to rally the troops--- you are the Platoon Sergeant I'll look to. However, yours is an easy job-- the morale and experience level of this company is beyond measure. I'm proud of you guys for making my job almost unneccessary, which is as it should be.

It would be my honor, Sir.

As long as a certain Colonel WB is in charge, and the rest of our SPWAW Band Of Brothers here are together, I'd be content in knowing we would achieve final victory.

My fave sound in spwaw is the .50 cal MG when I'm firing at light armour ... I just love the meaty "thunk" when a round penetrates ... oooohhhhh!

I also love the overrun sound effects, especially the groan of agony! (but only when I'm not on the receiving end )

Ditto, the flame thrower. A wolf in a sheep-dress. And, an original MG42 would be
great, too (stated it some time ago, couldn´t resist...). I am just crazy for 8.2! Thanks
to all guys who did it in theyr free time... and to the company that enables it.

Cheers!

It's not really a weapon sound but I love the sound of a big ammo dump going up. Satisfying after firing at it for a couple of turns. But don't get too close

Not really a weapon but:

Over-run! Hearing all the screaming and squishing of bodies... Wow!

Next on my list is the melee sound.

First real weapon is "Hitler's buzzsaw," the MG42.

Yep, the real MG42 sound is awesome. Have a target in sight, hit "F" 6 times to burn off all shots at it. BRAAAAAAAAaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAP.

I like the satchel charges too. Sounds like the whole house is coming down with them.

And who can forget the MINES!!

Japanese Sqd yelling "BANZAY!!" during mele

I'm playing H2H only ... so I don't remember the origninal sound of SPWaW ... but I always liked MMG42 and the Soviet Dskh-12mm (it sounds like an old sewing machine)

Matti, that's the Übersniper. Or really, any Sniper.

Am I correct saying that sound was nicked off Saving Private Ryan? When Pvt. Jackson snaps the first shot at the approaching Germans from the church tower, there's a brief lull and you hear the cartridge pinging on the floor, and the he proceeds to take them out, one after one.

Well, all this makes me wish we had more weapons-specifics sounds, such as a real 1903 Springfield or a Thompson. I did a web search for the sound of the '03 firing, and came up empty. There IS one from the old Close Combat series, but it was poorly recorded. I have to credit Panzer Leo for some of his H2H alternative sounds, but they are sometimes 8-bit mono, not the 16-bit stereo SPWaW wavs I've gotten spoiled with.

KG, do you know what kind of sounds and from what recordings will CL use?

I'd be interested to know if they are more recent editions then the ones from SPWAW.

Platoon Sergeant John David, I don't have that information. Wish I could help, but I'm not involved in any way with CL. If you have questions regarding CL, you should ask on the CL forum.

The sound I like is the one of my opponent doing recon-by-dismemberment across my minefield

But after that, definitely the .50 cal.
Followed closely by the 88's from a Tiger.

I like especially the sound of the MG34 with the cartridges hitting the floor in rapid succession. Other than that it´s the Garand and the 88s.
