First my specs

Windows ME
1Ghz CPU
512 MB RAM
DX 9.0b

I purchased UV whwn it first came out, plyed it, and went on to other things. Today I re-installed UV 1.0, then downloaded the 2.0 cumulative patch, the 2.10, the 2.11, the 2.20 and the 2.30 patches. The game still runs fine in 1.0. But since I installed the patches I get nothing. I click the shortcut, the main menu appears, I click 'Play Uncommon Valor' and all I get is the Installation Menu. I've evn tried going through the START, Programs, etc path and I still get nothing. A little help would be appreciated.

Strange indeed...

Can you do the reinstall (just in case)?

In other words:

#1
Download all needed patches again.

#2
Install UV v1.0

#3
Install UV v2.0 patch

#4
Install all post v2.0 patches.

BTW, did you DL the patches or use the on-line update?

I re-installed 1.0 and it played, OK. I then installed the 2.0 cumulative patch and 'no dice', again. So I just uninstalled the game again unril I got some help.

I did not use the online update. I downloaded the patches.

Hi, Have you went into the UV folder and clicked the .exe file to start?

When I first purchased the game and installed it, I wouldn't get past the title screen. I had a fairly new computer at the time and was pestering the heck out of the staff here. Anyway, I swapped my 48X CD-ROM with one having a slower speed (16X IIRC - I'm not too keen on the computer stuff) and have not had a problem since. Perfect operation.

btw, I never put the original CD-ROM back in my system. I had it checked out with one of the computer tech folks at school and they proclaimed it to be just fine. I just like UV too much to even take a chance on changing a configuration that works.

Hope it helps, and don't stop trying to get the game going. It is definitely worth it!

I looked for a .exe file but could not locate it. All I could find was a little 'cd' icon that is labeled 'start'. Is the .exe file in the main folder or another one?

Thank you, Mogami. I actually took a guess and assumed that was what you meant and it worked great. Many, many thanks for your help.

HI Marky,

I think you've been having problems with your disk? Have you been able to get the game running from the disk yet? If not I would suggest there is a problem with the disk.

Also trying to run the game does the shortcut on the desktop have

"C:\Matrix Games\Uncommon Valor\UncommonValor.exe" as target

"C:\Matrix Games\Uncommon Valor" as Start in?

Also did you load the file into the default folder?

Can you try:

#1
Download all needed patches again.

#2
Install UV v1.0

#3
Install UV v2.0 patch

#4
Install all post v2.0 patches.

What happens after you do all of the above?

Leo "Apollo11"

P.S. I think that you are the first player unable to start UV (as far as I can remember) so we will all try to help you as much as possible...

From memory, he wasnt able to get the game running even on version 1 (or version 2 if he has a later disk that came with V2 on it).

Have you posted your dxdiag and computer specs to Matrix? If you want send them to me paul.harrison50@bigpond.com and I will try to get someone to look at them, but I suspect its your disk if you cant even get the game running without the patches.

I think the problem is in the cumulative 2.0 patch.

I just wiped UV to reinstall in hopes that it would prevent my transport problems next game I start. I unfortunately wiped all the patches from my system in doing so.

Well I loaded up 1.0 and downloaded 2.0. Well I get the start menu doesn't work. Ok I try starting from the .exe file. Seems to work.

So I go ahead and dwnld the other 3 patches(using true update exe file not start menu). Still start menu won't work. AND scen 19 is missing from menu even though all files seem to be there. So I wipe again.

I still can't a) get start menu to work and b) get scen 19 to show up in menu. This on a system where everything did work.

Then I remembered updating from 1.6 to 1.9 had similar problems and Marc posted a fix here. I haven't found it yet but that may be our answer. If I find it I'll let everyone know.

In the meantime it looks as if I am out of action.

The other option is right click on desktop
select New
select shortcut
this will go to an option to browse for shortcut
find the shortcut
click next next and this should put the working shortcut on the desktop

Marky, from the initial install could you get the game to run?

Also did the original game put a shortcut on your desktop?

From the initial install did you try to go into the UV folder and double click the UncommonValour.exe file?

If the answer is yes to the first question then I think you have a dud disk. If this is the case take it back to where you got it from and get a new one.
