When enemy are same hex with two of you groop. When i fire enemys troop my own gets first hits and when own troop/s are killed then i could
shoot enemy soldiers or whatever. Is v7 bug free for this one! Steel

Not a bug, just frustrating. It depends on the supression level of your guys. I'd prefer not to have it happen, but I've gotten so I won't fire on a hex that contains both enemy and my troops... unless I'm in a hurry, in which case it's just too bad for my guys! BTW, v7 has the same thing. [ November 05, 2001: Message edited by: Warrior ]

Hi all.
I think something's wrong in this feature anyway.
I mean the possibility of hitting yr own troops was already there, but with 6.1 has DRAMATICALLY increased, prolly above any reasonable extent.
Run some tests, keep statistics and you'll see that chances to hit yr own troops are now higher than those to hit enemies.
As far as you aim at the enemy and not at yr troops, chances should lay in favour of you hitting the enemy..
I think this should be an easy fix.

Its called Friendly fire guys (or fraticide I believe). Good WW2 example would be operation Cobra, Americans even managed to kill a General in the opening bombardment. You wont find many good sources for this trouble because it is something that the military suffers over and naturally doesnt talk about freely. I can see friendly fire being more harmful to us as opposed to them, why, cause our guys are assuming we are not getting shot at by us. The enemy though is not inclined to walk into it. Think this is simplistic, think its unfair, well I guess ordinary gamers might see it that way. The truth is far from palatable though. It might be a design flaw, but likely a flaw that captured reality by mistake in this case. If Steel Panthers is to be fun to me it has to be brutally real. Otherwise why arent you playing a silly shooter game. If you dont want your pixel guys shooting at your other pixel guys do something about it (to many ways to see that done than I want to waste time on). Remember those pixel guys are pixel guys. Not that it matters. I have seen guys get killed in the real world from real world guys that were merely confused about who they were shooting at. Even in todays modern hi tech world people are not immune to tragedy. Most of the Gulf War casualties if my info is correct, were killed by us.

Hmmm. Paul V has mentioned that there is an unintended feature in that fire from far away tends to hit the targeted unit while fire from close in tends to hit non-targeted units in a hex. This requries LOTS of debugging and is not to be changed in the foreseeable future. Perhaps this and the "hit your own troops more often" unintended feature are related.

The opposite usually happen to me the enemy troop get whacked. Why I remember the time an engineering unit was in the same hex as two MkIV both of which were destroyed by theirs side. The best way around this happening is to overrun the hex with friendly and enemy troops in it. This does not hurt friendly troops.
