P-47D Are those black and white stripes the D-Day markings? or is that just unit markings, although I thought unit markings were limited to the cowling and tail.

That would make sense looking at the markings on the rudder, but I wonder why they left US insignias, maybe for Friendly/Foe Id?

I thought it was a P-47 but had no idea about the unit.

Where were they based? Did they see any action?

Did not realise Mexican units were active during the war.

Hi Norseman,

They operated in the PI , Arrived in Manilla Bay on 30 April 45 , established at Porac Field, part of Clarke Field, started pre-combat training on 7 May, first combat mission on 4 June , last combat mission in August on targets in Formosa , total combat missions = 42
