In the ship info screen there is a column for the facing direction for a weapon, what purpose does this serve? Do ships roll to see what directions they can fire at other ships/planes?

It's just the way the simulation presents it...the 'crossing the T' is baring your forward guns, etc.

It validates that only certain guns get used against attacks instead of having every gun unload at once at every target.

Memory serves, DB's do stern/bow attacks so get shot at less. TB's do broadside attacks and get mauled. etc...
