Was wondering how quicky CVs replace lost aircraft. Am currently playing scen16 as US and have just fended off Jap air attack from carrier group. Gave they aircraft a right pasting and estimate they are at half strength or less now. Just in time for my own CV TF to enter the fray! Am hoping that I`ll have air superiority and hope to press home advantage. So how quickly will they return to strength and do they have to return to port and sit a while to do so?

In my experience, planes were not replaced until the CV TF mades port. Then, they were brought to full strength in one turn (replacements were available). Not sure if that is how it always works.

Replaced in one turn!! Guess that works ok if my planes were mauled. At the very least wont they lose good exp. pilots? If Japs IJN continues to take these sorts of losses surely there comes a point where it can`t replace.

For IJN, any replacements will almost certainly have experience ratings considerably lower than that of the fellows they are replacing....

PLANES are replaced in a day but pilots seem to only replace at the rate of one per day.

Pilots can be replaced at more than one a day. It all depends on the number of pilots that you have in the replacement pool and the scenario. But you are right in that a sorely depleted air group will receive planes faster than pilots.

The historical scenarios see the quality of Japanese pilots degrade very fast. If you are playing #19 (a personal favorite) then pilot quality will not necessarily degrade too fast. It all depends on the number and frequency of casualties. If you are taking a pasting as either the Allied or Japanese player, and drawing on you pilot pool frequently, you will see a sharp drop in pilot quality. If your losses are normal, then the replacements that you get will not be too bad. (generally in the 50-60 range for Allies and 40 to 50 range for Japan)

So, if you are doing well as the Japanese, your pilot quality will not suffer so much.

Late in the game when the better Allied planes are in play, more Japanese pilots will get shot down in normal combat and Japanese replacement pilots will tend to suffer more in quality.
