How about it? Actually, it was taking a thrashing from Stephen "Willy" that made me decide to do this. Most of you will know how difficult it is to select evenly matched forces. This tournament seeks to completely rectify that, in order that strategic skill becomes the sole criteria - oh, and having fun! I will soon suggest an entry deadline. The cutoff time can be when all the entrants have finished playing each other (round robin format). Of course, there'll need to be an absolute deadline for those who get side-tracked.

In this tournament, both opponents should have exactly the same forces. It would best be played on a small random map with about 2000pts each, and only about 10 turns, but this isn't mandatory. Quick games will make for a quick round-robin tournament. Rarity Off may help to ensure both opponents have access to unlimited supplies. Any modifications can be made to the above, any Nationality selected, so long as the first person to select their forces DOCUMENTS them EXACTLY and the next person REPLICATES them exactly. If it occurs that forces are not exactly the same, the game MUST be abandoned for a new one. And the map MUST be random. This way, it doesn't matter what version is being used or how much arty or soforth. I'll be happy to be the score keeper and moderator, unless somebody more experienced wants to do it.

Any starters?

Sorry mate, but you're too bloody violent, from what I've heard! Just kidding. Welcome aboard!

Probably stop entries in a couple of weeks (give Mangudai a chance to get back). And we'll probably need a couple of months to finish. I suppose the entries should be capped, otherwise a round robin won't work. If we're flooded with interest, we'll bring in pool play.

Entries so far:

Welcome h_h_lightcap!

As an example, here is the shopping list I'm sending to VikingNo2.

The scenario: Following a heated drunken dispute within a SO Battalion HQ, over Stalin, a woman and vodka, two Colonels rally those troops loyal to them and go for each others' throats. It's going to be a short and bitter brawl!

Small Random Map, May '43, 10 turns, infiltration and reinforcement ok.

Cost Formation

124 SO Cavalry
84 Light Mortar Plt
196 76.2mm ATG
90 Med Mortar Sec
44 Fwd Observer
66 6 x snipers @ 11 = 66
377 Rifle Co* (12.7mm HMG)
75 Heavy Truck Plt (Studebaker)
85 Partisan Band (no Sappers)
120 Lt Tank Sec (M3L Stuarts)
110 Lt Tank Sec (BT-7M)
339 Guards Tank Plt (T-34 m.3)
66 ½ Engineer Plt

(+220 HQ = 1996)

Points left = 4

I assume you need some cannon fodder. I might as well bust my PBEM cherry and get some experience. Email me at Roblawrence1@cox.net with the details.

For that matter, anybody who wants a game, I'm up for it anytime.

great turnout so far! i'm pretty sure we can count in Willy, Hellcat, Minefield and maybe Mangudai and Jaminji, so we should probably stop entries at the end of next week. The tournament has officially started. The only rule is that both opponents have exactly the same forces when the game begins. It's up to the players to decide on nations and forces for each game. It's a good idea to keep the games short. Make sure you are using the same SPWAW version as your opponent, otherwise the costs will vary. START playing each person in this forum NOW! Just remember to post the score.

Just as I was ready to kick start the tournament, my SPWAW files have been corrupted and now I have to reinstall! Nevermind, start without me. Play each other and post the results. I'll be back with a vengeance!
