I´ve found myself fighting in the same scenary in two consecutives missions on Mega Campaign 1. It´s in the operations around Tobruk and, after taking the hills around Fort Capuzzo from british hands, a couple missions later I found myself defending that posittion from a british counterstrike with Matildas and Indian and Gurkha infantry. My engineers and a couple 88 mm AT did the job with the armoured offensive and then my own armoured units (PZ III and IV) finished the british infantry. But now I begin the next mission (which was supposed to be a defensive battle after getting isolated by the enemy counterstrike) and I find myself again facing Fort Capuzzo and the hills around it. ¡¡¡And they are controlled by the brits, once again!!! So I must retake them.
Has anybody found himself in the same situation. Is it a bug or a joke???

A lot of the same ground was fought over repeatedly in North Africa. Wait till you get to the East Front and Guadalcanal! [ November 27, 2001: Message edited by: Warrior ]

Thanks, Warrior, I knew. But I don´t find it normal that the mission assigned after success in defending a position was to take it again. ¡¡¡It wasn´t lost in previous scenary!!! Besides, the initial description spoke about facing an enemy strike and keeping positions till the reinforcements arrive and I am the one who attacks that damned Fort Capuzzo once again. I don´t mind to fight once, twice or as many times as necessary an enemy position, but I don´t think it was the intention of the designers in this concrete case. If it was, the previous description of the mission doesn´t fits with the mission itself. That´s why I wonder if it happened to anyone before. ¿Did it?

Maybe it would help to look at it from a larger picture...
YOU successfully defended your sector of the line but others may not have, precipitating a withdrawal to other positions. Or, just as likely, forces were withdrawn for use elsewhere, and the Brits exploited that withdrawal. "Real World" you are one small piece of a three-four division effort.

Something very strange. I replied to Phil yesterday but the post has disappeared! At any rate, Warrrior has explained the concept well as has Grumble. I'm not sure exactly which battles Phil is talking about. I'll look that up. I do know, however, that in North Africa especially, lines were drawn and redrawn. Ground was taken and retaken. This was true also in other parts of the world and in other wars, Hamburger Hill, Pork Chop Hill, etc. It is frustrating for you as a commander to be faced with retaking ground you have already taken. I understand that. It was, however, a fact in the war. I wonder if you are referring to Node036. Here is the text: YOUR ORDERS - Fort Capuzzo - April 12th, 1941 The Luftwaffe has detected enemy movment and what appears to be defensive preparations around the old Fort Capuzzo area near Halfaya Pass. We want your units to conduct a quick strike against them. Do not linger. You are to hit them hard and then disappear into the desert. It is imperative that you take the objectives, hold them long as possible and then exit from the battle at the designated spot on your map, Herr Oberst. Good hunting! As the text indicates, this was not a take and hold battle, but a hit and run battle. The scenario portrays this. Is this the one you are talking about, Phil? WB

Thanks again for the precissions. I agree most of them. Wild Bill, the mission you describe is several scenaries before the ones I say. That was the first fight for Fort Capuzzo, but four or five missions after that (On may 1941, I´ll try to locate it more concretely) after success on defending my own positions in the fort, next scenary makes my reconquer it again. It´s not frustrating in a strategic analisys, but susprising that the instructions of the scenary doesn´t fit with the mission itself.

Wild Bill, here is the description of the scenary I talk about. Thanks in advance for everything. A tight spot-Central Libya
Operation Brevity-May 16th 1941
"We´ve just received word of a critical situation, Oberst! The enemy´s 7th Armored Brigade is now behind you and you, along with the italian troops in the area, are in danger of being overrun.
We are unable to help you al the moment, so you must prepare for an attack on your positions at once. Hold your ground. We´ll try to reach you with units of Groupe Herff as soon as we can. You must hold!"
