Had the same problem when the game was first released, figured I'd try it again with some updates having been released.
Game still won't start; no screens of any kind. Have applied 1.11 and the copy protection fix.

Get this error message upon trying to start via the quick start method, "A required .dll file, vorbisfile.dll, is missing"

Ideas ?

Hi John,
Glad to see your still with us. Upon installation, several dll's required for playing ogg vorbis files (similar to mp3) are installed to the same location as your executible. You should see vorbisfile.dll, vorbis.dll and ogg.dll files in the same folder as your executible. If so, try double clicking the executible file from that folder, to make sure your program has the correct start folder specified.

Let me know how you go.

Thanks for the help Alex, heres the current status.

I did a re-install, as I don't think the first install went well, as I don't see an options.cfg file, as mentioned in other threads. Now, I got the "Can't start without cd, etc." message.
My hardware is fine per the sticky thread on this topic, so I installed the copy protection patch.

Now, the game starts, but all I get is a black screen with a green arrow mouse courser icon. No video, or anything else.

Am trying to start via the method you mention.

Heres something potentially strange that I just noticed. The version number of the korsun.exe file in the game folder, and on the cd, are both 1.0.0.1, even though I've applied all the patchs to the exe in the game folder......

Update........hope someone can help from here.

I deleted the three intro. movies, to see if that would help. Game now goes to the opening screen, but when I click on any of the buttons there, I get two things:

- a smaller black window, like another video is trying to open.

- mouse cursor analomies; move the cursor, and a trail of cursor shadows follows it, if that makes sense.

When you say you did a reinstall, did you uninstall the first version or simply install over or just delete the folder? Sounds like your registry settings may be amiss.. AlexS is the man he will sort it out for you.. hang in there..

I used the uninstall feature, deleted the remaining folders manually, and also manually deleted any registry entries(there were two still left; one called Korson, once called Matrix)

Knock, knock, anyone home ?

Fyi, I have a very clean, basic system. Only one cd drive, no anti-virus, cd burner, etc. Only software is the os, which is win98.

This is the only game I have that won't work. Hopefully get some answers today, or its back to the store(again) for a refund, and obviously won't bother trying any other Matrix games, since I have other things to do with games that work fine. <g>

Is there anyway to bypass/disable the opening videos, and any videos that try to kick in elsewhere ?

That is at least part of the problem.

John, Have you tried starting the game from the executable file in explorer? the file is korsun.exe. That bypasses the opening videos.

Yep, just get a blank screen with a cursor then, that I have to ctrl-alt-del out of. Tried all three startup options actually.

John (and sydeman)
The reason I am asking about the option file is that it is created upon running for the first time (early at the program's execution). The fact that it does not exist on your system gives me more info about where the program is crashing.
I will send you both the files tonight so we can disable the playing of the start avi's which may be causing the problems.
One customer who had a similar problem (though with winXP) found that a fresh install of his operating solved problems, but as you have a fairly clean install i wouldnt suspect this would help here. Can I ask whether you upgraded your windows installation, or did a fresh install (ie formatted hard drive etc)?

All,
Problem solved by disabling the playing of the initial movies through the use of the option file. I had to send John the options file because the problem occurred before the default one was created.
