Status: offline 		Nice screenies there from Raver - I knew his sub force north of the PI had diminished somewhat (i thought due to my improved ASW) however I haven't sent anything through that gap between Sulawesi and Borneo and probably wont be. Soon I'll be punching some holes in Raver's fuel supplies, but as usual I'm a few turns behind where I'd like to be with that.

Hope everyone is enjoying my new sig - had an even better one but it didn't fit.

The banana will be back (he's off planning my new offensive) soon enough!

Status: offline 		Raver tried to send a ML into Rangoon. Thought he'd slip past a bunch of CVs, some bbs and a few CAs and lay some mines . . . uh no. Kates disabused him.

As for elsewhere is pretty quiet. Things progressing along well enough I guess, troops unloading and loading all over the joint. Moulmein is now overfull with troops.

Also no sign of Raver's snatch Suva back campaign.

Status: offline 		Burma is a very interesting place. If you all look at the screenie that I posted further up the thread you will notice that the Allied player has a few problems in regards to defence. Rangoon is not the key to Burma, but a Japanese player must take it or risk having his supply lines cut. The Allies must hold all of the following Akyab, Pagan and Mandalay. Doing so tends to spread your forces rather thin but failing to defend these three areas allows the Jap access to burma.

Status: offline 		The problem with Rangoon is loosing means that your troops get seriously creamed. The retreat path is also the direction Japan comes in. What happens is your troops end up swimming east and end up behind the lines with no supply and nowhere to go to get back to supply.

Think *very* carefully about the risks of a failed Rangoon. Had you instead held at Moulmein, you can retreat and save your troops by not getting cut off and fight all the way back to Mandalay.

Study the map well, noting the rail, road and trail network. It dictates your plan of action. Troops above the trail network are faster to send to Chandpur and transported to Rangoon. The trail movement speeds are brutal.

Status: offline 		Foolish foolish Raver. Not only is he thinking that I'm not still in the Indian ocean, he's thinking that he can get some firepower up to Moulmein and hit me. Ships were spotted by my float planes and my kates pounced. I hammered about ten transports at Changpur (sinking at least half) and killed over 500 allied troops trapped on the transports (Raver was unloading reinforcements up there in case I tried to hop Rangoon - and to be honest I was thinking about it), and a small surface combat TF at Diamond Harbour got bombed (outside torp range) and I beat up a CLAA, and a few dds (although there is a CA there).

See what happens next turn!

Status: offline 		Well it is now official....Luskan owns the Indian Ocean He is able to steam where ever and when ever he wants and the is bugger all that I can do about it. I had a Squadron of Hurricanes at Chandpur and he just cut trough them as if they were not there ! I lost 10 in that little encounter ( the combat report is somewhat over blown)! But it must be said that these were VERY green pilots with exp of 55 to 56. With very little effort (I think there are only three IJN CVEs) Luskan has succeded in winning a large part of the sea, and he who controls the sea, controls the land. My ONLY hope is that he will grow tried of this and quit the area.

Status: offline 		I think there was the one experimental squadron - they aren't mass producable yet?

Well Raver tried to hide - in port. That old gamey tactic isn't going to work with me. I didn't waste any planes doing this - I sent in 3 bbs. Now while the coastal defence battery only fired 34 shots back, they sank 1 of my dds and messed up another.

Fortunately my 3 bbs hit back, wiped out almost 500 troops in the overcrowded and underdefended port area, and pounded a heap of Raver's ships (especially the cornwall and dauntless) without them even getting to fire a shot back. Didn't get many planes on the ground unfortunately.

Raver is crazy - Chandpur and Diamond Harbour are entirely too close to my zone of control to be keeping 30+ships (transports mostly) in port. Especially when he doesn't have any real air cover to speak of. A few more bombardments and they'll only be fit for scrap - well worth the few destroyers it will cost me.

Must be some kind of bug (or maybe wrong database insertion). According to informations I own, first Tojos or Shokis in number of 9 planes (pre-production models and two prototypes) were given for tests in Sep 1941 to Kawasemi Butai experimental squadron. They were slow with small climbrate, far below the expectations.

Those IIb version which participated in attack entered duty in August 1942 (at least then first of them were produced)...

Status: offline 		Yeah like it is my CHOICE to have them there They were in port on a red cross mission to supply food and medical equipment to the local population The IJN CVs were spotted and the Harbour Master ordered all AKs to stay in port.........trying to flee and they would have been eaten alive by the Kates. Luskan puts my between a rock and a hard place and then calls me crazy ! One of these days bananananaa boy you are going to get skinned and skinned good!

Status: offline 		Luskan and I have pushed past about five rebuilds in the interest of keeping the AAR alive, and as such are seening a few strange things with the art work and the database. We should have restarted two builds ago but are still getting a playable game so we decided to keep going for the interest of the readers of this thread. As always remember that this is a BETA AAR.

Status: offline 		Hi, There is a group of 9 Tojo at start of game. They are the group sent to China to test the aircraft in combat before production began. Because WITP does not include every type of a particular aircraft they are the later version that goes into production rather then the early version that did the tests. But there were 9 Tojo in combat in 1941 so there they are. (They are the best fighters the Japanese have in China unless the player sends in groups from outside. there are no replacements for these aircraft so use them wisely)

Oh... silly I forgot about the possibility to switch aircraft production and planes' replacement in the game.
In materials I own about japanese planes it is mentioned that Ki-44 IIb were one of few fighters which were a real threat to the B-29s. So it's obvious the well thinking player would like them to have wherever it's possible (especially in the air) . Ehhh need some caffeine...

Status: offline 		Ok I am going to throw this question out to you guys and see what you come up with.

How can I stop, circumvent even, Luskan control of the Bay of Bengal ? Using US fleet carriers is out of the question as they are currently on the West coast of the US (and even if I did want to use them I would have to steam all the way across the Pacfic, then under Australia and into the Indian Ocean, and that would be a good month of steaming not allowing to bunkering.
The RN has HMS Hermes on hand but with nothing but Gladiators and Swordfish it would be a one sided contest. I have some MRBs but so far they have proved to be uneffective, and without fighter support they bulk at flying a naval attck mission. The fighters that I do have are next to useless, in the form of Hurricanes that simply don't have the legs to carry the battle out to sea, never mind the fact that they have been totally out classed in ari to air fights over land.

I need to regain my sea lanes to help support Rangoon and also supply Akyab which will be the next big battle in Burma after Rangoon.

I already have an idea as to what I intend to do, but thought it would be fun to see what else your guys come up with.

I had an idea that you could send the Hermes back to blighty for a refit/upgrade and leave the airproups based somewhere handy.
