At least I can tell you which I wouldn't recommend: EYSA and UV.
While both look nice, they lack playability IMHO. Both won't come any near towards SP:WAW.

I've also got EYSA and the jury is still out on that one. Maybe it's just because I'm spoiled by SP.

Jess buy a copy of HTTR.

Hey its not turn based and Les plays it, what the heck kinda endorsement are you looking for if not that eh :)

Les also says keep an eye on the Normandy release of the Korsun design.

I have EYSA, and I think the design needs more evolution.

Is HTTR that good?

Judging from the screenshot it seemed too "theoretical" for my taste. I like to see little tanks and men insted of tactical symbols, so I refrained from trying it.

Yes.

HTTR is an operative level wargame with mostly company sized units. Obviously it doesn't compete with tactical level wargames where one controls single tanks and squads, although those "tactical symbols" include detailed TOEs with their historical equipment.

Al I want for christmas santa, is to see games like HTTR kill off the fad with RTS games that have no bearing on real wargaming.

Down with dumb games, wargamers unite, demand that wargames look like real wargames should....like HTTR :)

Ok it's hot here, I thought thinking of snow might help :)

Now back to sweating over my son's guinea pig cage :(

OUCH! WORST INSULT AN AMERICAN CAN GIVE A CANADIAN IS TO BEAT THEIR HOCKEY TEAM IN THE PLAYOFFS---AND TO HAVE A FLORIDA TEAM DO IT JUST RUBS SALT IN THE WOUND. FLORIDA AND HOCKEY GO TOGETHER LIKE MILITARY INTELLIGENCE... ISN'T THAT WHY HOCKEY IS IN SUCH DIRE STRAITS?

Florida isn't so bad, about this time of year it is almost Canadian eh.

More Canadian during the winter though :)

The guinea pig cage ended the day 95% completed. Ugly looking box with a door to some extent. Ran out of screen wire.

I hate the heat.

Jess,IMHO Uncommon Valor is one of the best wargames ever produced, and I believe it is extremely "playable"..
The game has a tremendous amount of detail built into it(units down to platoon size)with most of the micromanagement done by the CPU..
Different add ons have been made to change some of the graphics and scenerios,etc..
A much larger version based on the same engine is supposed to be coming out to cover the entire Pacific theatre of operations, later this year..
If you get tired of tanks losing their treads in the mud and having to change the grousers, give UV a try..The sea air will do wonders for you..Great chnge of pace..
BTW,how can ANYTHING by Gary Grigsby be bad????????????????????????????

i think these comments about UV (uncommon valor) are a reaction to the lack of individual unit control. i started with tactics 2 board game and, until computer games, expected to control every unit, except when i rolled a 4 and all units in hexes ending in 2, 5, 9 couldn't move.

most computer games have a similar amount of control and it takes some getting used to when you don't. i remember getting annoyed playing carrier strike and not being able to control the land-based aircraft. well that wasn't my "role" in the game. also remember some operational level games by ssg (one was about korea) where you told units where to move and sometimes they deviated from the orders you issued them. couldn't "plan" for it but had to be prepared to adapt.

uv was that way for me. bought it when it first came out, couldn't quite get into it, got wrapped up in 3 graphics programs, came back to it and now i am playing it a lot. i am more comfortable with the history having read a bunch of books, i approch the game from the theater commander perspective, not the tf commander, and i need to prepare for witp.
