For the SPWAW engine and max map size how many points do you think it's right? I think that no more then 4000/5000 points (less in 1936-1941). Ciao.

Size of the battle is purely up to the players.
I have seen them as small as a few hundred points on a small map and as large as 15000 on a huge map.

I'm not a good english writer, sorry, but I mean, what is the ideal dimension (amplitude) for a battle over a map 100x120 hexes (5x6 km). During ww2 what was the average dimension (amplitude) of a sector under control of one infantry company? [ December 17, 2001: Message edited by: gnoccop ]

In 1944, The Highland Light Infantry of Canada advanced on Buron over a distance of a little under 2 km. The width of the start line extended from Vieux Caron to les Buissons- a distance of approximately 1km. The Battalion advanced with B and D company in front of A and C company. They were supported (IIRC) by three Sherman V tanks. Of course the concept of an 'average' size of a sector would depend on the nation, the army and the terrain.

I think you will find some help in Larry Holts tactical guide where you can find figures about how many platoons, tanks and artillery you would expect/km of front (the chapter about ww2 German and Soviet doctrinal notes).
You will find it at
http://www.fprado.com/armorsite/spwaw_downloads.
