It seems that from a different publication that I have just aquired that their were THREE DIFFERENT 60mm mortars in US service.

The proof of this is in the different barrel lengths.

The first is the 60mm M2. This was the standard light mortar for US forces through out WWII and beyond.
Barrel Length..............74.2cm
Weight in firing possition.......19kg

T18E6 60mm mortar was designed to be used like a grenade launcher. The base plate looked like a small curved shoulder pad. The weapon was fitted with a M15 grenade launcher sight fitted near the tube muzzle. This mortar was trigger fired only useing a lanyard attached to a trigger at the base of the tube. Could use all standard 60mm mortar ammunition but only with the initial ignition charge and ONE propellant charge (CHARGE ONE). A sling was used for carry and support purposes.
Barrel Length............56cm
Weight in firing possition....9.1kg
Developed...1944 used in combat in small numbers by Airborne units (Operation Varsity) and other Special Forces units.

M19 60mm mortar seems to have been developed to fill both nitches. It could be fitted with the bases of either of the above mortars and was also trigger fired. As a matter of fact the only difference between the M2 and M19 was the trigger mechanism and slightly longer tube length of the M19. Both the M2 and M19 used the same base plate, bi-pod and sights. The M19 also had a slightly longer range. (270m more)
Barrel Length............81.3cm
Weight in firing possition......19.1kg
Not used durring WWII. Did see some limited use in both Korea and Vietnam.

Most of the stuff mentioned above I have mentioned before so poo on the sources.
Information on sights, barrel length, and weight in firing possition are from.....

Brassey's Infantry Weapons of the World. 1950-1975
Editor.... Major General J.I.H. Owen obe late Royal Marines

ISBN: 0-517-242346

Hint!! In the US OOB, Weapons slot #209 is open as is Unit slot #99. This would allow scenario designers to use this obscure weapon if they chose to do so.

I don't give up easy. Do I?

My intent is not to tic anyone off but just to inform. I would have E-mailed this to the OOB team directly but sometime last week I picked up some kind of nasty spyware on my computer. So out of courtesy and not wishing to infect anyone else's computer I posted the information here for all of you to enjoy. As of today my security seems to be back up to par and the offensive spyware has been removed. A few more checks today and some updating and I'll be back in the saddle again!

Kevin, I think at this point you should just post the relevant OOB weapons data here, and let the gamers add them per their choosing.

In other sections, an effort is being undertaken to explain what the various OOB Editor values mean. Like all of the best games, SPWaW gives you complete control over the databases for all nations. I would like to encourage individual gamers to do their own research, but certain guidelines must be followed for translating raw data into useful values for SPWaW game play.

The SPWaW OOB mods sub-forum is already there, and independent OOB research should be focused there. We'll get into this more after 8.2 is released. More discussion on AI selections will also be forthcoming, as the majority of SPWaW players play against that AI either intermittently or exclusively.

The game offers infinite possibilities, which guarantees its "shelf life" for years to come.

I'll stay on as long as I can offer meaningful support. I've said it repeatedly, but it's all for the love of the game.

With best regards to all,
"Gunny"

Thank you Gunny!! Here it is!

For those of you that do not know how to create or change units in the OOB this would be a good thread to read.

To get started open the Steel Panthers World at War V8.2 or 1 if you want to practice.
Look for the Icon that looks like a group of city building, this is the Spwaw-Editor.exe. Open it
The screen now should say "STEEL PANTHERS WORLD AT WAR OOB EDITOR" on a black back ground. At the top of the screen on the left side you will notice a small word "file", click on it.
Move cursor to Edit OOB and the Nations list will appear. Move cursor down to Nation 82-U.S. Army and click on it.

You are now in the U.S. OOB in the Units screen.

Now we have to make the weapon. Click on "Weapons" you will now see a listing of the weapons in the U.S. OOB.
Move down to weapons slot 209, it should be empty.
Enter the following information.

Range(this should be name) 60mm T18E6 Mort

Weapon Class.....03 Team

Weapon Size.......2

Max Range..........64

Max APCR............4

Accuracy..............0

Warhead..............3

HE-Kill.................5

Pen AP.................0

Pen HE................9

Pen APCR.............0

Pen HEAT.............0

At this point you could move the cursor back to File look for SAVE, click it then continue.

Now we have to make it a UNIT find the unit toggle and click it.
Move down to Units slot 099.

Enter the following information. Leave all other slots at 0 or empty.

Name............T18E6 MTR

Nation...........82- U.S. Army

Class ...........80 Light Mortar

Crew............2

Speed...........9

Radio............53

Icon..............66

LBM..............56

ROF..............8

Cost..............18

Available from January 1944 to the end of 1949

Weapon 1....209 (60mm T18E6 Mort will appear in slot) HE.. 24(No. of rounds)

Weapon 2....144 (Mi Carbine will appear in slot) HE.. 20

Ok all done! Move cursor to File and hit SAVE done!! The weapon unit shoul show up in the varrious Lt Mortar screens under Artillery when you are picking units for your custom OOB. For Historical accuracy Use the Ranger Lt Mortar.

OR!

Create a NEW FORMATION!!

Find Formation toggle and click it. And enter this information in Formation slot 1138 (it should be empty)

Name............AB Lt Mortar

Formation Type.......01 Platoon

Nation..........82 U.S. Army

Purchase Screen.....02 Artillery

Availlable from January 1944 to the end of 1949

Special...........12

Unit 1.... Under type enter 099 (60mm T18E6 MTR will appear in slot)

Under No. enter 1

And Save!! It fits already tried it!! Now the U.S. Paratroopers have their own Elite Lt Mortar units. If you check you will see that the other 60mm Lt mortars will also appear under this heading.

Happy gaming and enjoy this new unit.

Any questions please post them HERE!! I'll be more than happy to answer them.

PS For a little more Historical accuracy change the Max Range on the M19 Lt mortar from 168 to 188. The M19 can be found in Weapons slot 217.

Edited as per Major D's propper suggestions. (Radio and Special)
Thank you Major D.!!

Kevin, great job. I'm gonna copy your post and use it in a new Training Center thread: "Using the OOB Editor 101". Thanks.
