Hi,

I am a newbie to SPWAW engine and have crossed some very important to my campaign problem I cannot solve (and couldn't find answer to that via forum's search engine). When I am playing the first scenario of Lost Victories Campaign where the forces are separated by the river, I am stuck with some of my heavy units on "my" riverside. Only the infantry is able to cross the river on rafts.

Is there any possibility to build some pontoon bridge?

Best regards,
Radzy

PS. Sorry for lame question

It doesn't seem to be a way to cross the heavy stuff on east side of the river, indeed.
The intro text for the battle is stating that the infantry has to cross the river and get rid of the borderline guards, so to allow eng. to build up a pontoon bridge later on.
The visibility should allow you to use the armor as support from the west side of the river, tough.

Note: the game engine doesn't allow to build up a pontoon bridge, so you'll probably find it already "on place" in the next scenarios.

Ahhh geeez. Where is my patience?. I was so eager to fight, I found myself skipping the initial information. Still need to keep myself better controled.

Thank You resisti.

Get your heavies near enough to the river so that they may help out in areas where you may be pinned by bunkers. Often the StuGs can suppress them enough to let your inf close in without excessive casualties. The infantry guns and ATG's don't help out a whole lot in this battle. I have found that the best choice for this battle seems to be the extra engineers. Extra arty would be my 2nd choice and the Stukas being a distant third.

I think the first three battles of this MC are on this map. You will have a bridge by the second. A hint - on-board arty starts one of these scenarios loaded onto transport - you need to unload it before you can use it. Also, in general it's often wise to leave a small garrison for your CP, arty & motor pool...;) The alternate scenarios in this MegaCamp generally just give you some additional troops, not different battles - you can make it without the extras but sometimes it is more fun to have them. I've never been able to get the Stukas to arrive for this one - instead it gives me the extra off-board arty. The engineers are fun if you want to blow up more of those pill boxes. Arty is fun if you want to crater the place - get to see what the 155's can do when you spot the infantry swarming in the woods. (You get some engineers and arty even with the default scenario.)

Actually, you have a choice about that bridge. Build it and you can get your heavies across, but it costs you time that translates into larger, better emplaced Russian opponents on the other side. Just one of the little choices that make these so good.

Ah, you're right - I'd forgotten that! LV is fun, though it's taking me years to play though it. The scenarios are often quite large, and I often want to play all the different versions before I go on the the next. Very good game.
