If it does (indications are yes! )....

What will you be doing next week ( and next weekend ) ??

My wife went on a trip to NY and left the kids ( 3 ) with me this weekend for 5 days. Last weekend she was at dance camp for my daughter. And the week before that she was in Dallas with my family for the weekend.

So - I havn't seen her for the last three weekends and I have been stuck at home with kids the last two weekends...

So.... when she gets home I'm sending the kids to the inlaws for 3 hours ( not like I'll need 3 hours ) - and then I'm going to lock myself in my office with a cooler of beer and cokes and sandwiches and WITP for the rest of the weekend!!

That's my plan anyway - actually, I'll probably get stuck going to 4th parties, doing yard work - going on a picnic - and will get lucky to get even 10 min alone with my wife!!

First....no, no, no, NO! Its *when* it comes out next week, not *if*

As to what i'll do, it will probably be something along the lines of filling the fridge, bolting all doors and windows, then sitting down until i drop (which probably wont be too long seeing that i'll probably forget ever going to the fridge, hehe)

Not me I had two free weekends, now she(wife)wants to go some place for the 4th of july. So it looks as if i won't be hiting the beaches. Maybe they'll have it up to sell to the rest of us and not just the few who were able to make it to origins. Going on a a trip in 3 weeks, with the wife again, so time is important to me. I wished they had released it to everyone. Oh well, ill take in a fire works show. Enjoy your 4th guys.

I have Thursday and Friday of next week, so I'll have plenty of time for gaming next weekend. I'm just hoping the DD will be up and running by Wednesday evening.

That's one big advantage of being English....no need to do anything special on July 4th. Course, it only applies once in your lifetime when something happens on the 3rd like the greatest PC game ever appearing, which doesn't happen often. It's also an advantage of being a teacher..6 weeks holiday starting on the 16th!!!!!!
Incidentally, who decided on the web cam idea? For 3 days I get either a message saying too many people are using it, or I get a view of tarpaulin covered boxes at 2 am, then finally I get to watch someone buy WITP when I cannot........is all this supposed to be good for my soul or something????? Just release the game in such a way that those of us outside the US can buy it. I bought UV on the day of release from Duchet Computers in England, got it a day later... I was one of the first playing it. NOT THIS TIME!!!!!
Mind you, I've been waiting 20 years for this, so what's a day or two. Anyone remember the promise of Pacific Tide? At least this time I know the game exists.

I understand completely. We have the time now , we are on the forums after all. But i agree with ya IanLister i don't like the way they released the game. I have the greatest respect for the guys at Matrix, i really, really do but the way they released WitP to those who could make it to origins and not to guys as a whole left a bad taste in my mouth. I only buy from two game companies Battlefront and Matrix no one else else gets my dollars. And i like you have waited many years for a game like this. However we lived thru the years without it and we will live thru the years with out it if we were to never buy it. I guess i am feeling sorry for my self.

I was quite interested to see this post. I too am pretty much loyal to these two companies, although I also like Horse & Musket. Sometimes it's hard to tell if other companies are patronized by forum members. It certainly would be nice if other publishers would release the number of very interesting titles that Matrix does. I love Combat Mission but Battlefront doesn't have the numbers of exciting titles that Matrix does.

Anyhow, I reserve judgement on their method of release this time, until I see how long it will take to receive a CD. Digital Download probably isn't such a good idea for me, dialup, and something is going on with my computer that everytime I'm online for long at all I pick up spyware. I have several anti-spyware programs, so it gets caught and removed quickly, but still aggravates the hell out of me.

Spyware!!! Don't you just love it? I have a plan for dealing with spyware.....one of the first times I played UV I had two PTs put a torpedo each into the Musashi off Lunga Roads, and then the following day P39s from Henderson bombed it to oblivion
Just let me know where the spyware comes from and I and the small boys will deal with it.................when I get the game

And I get to order it then... It won't be here until we leave for vacation - and this is not an ordinary vacation, so I can't take it with me. We have to escort my Mother-in-Law to be interred with my Father-in-Law. So, I won't see the game until the end of the month - except that is when the Pastor's school starts. Anyone for August?

Hoorah!!! let's sink the damn spyware.

On the serious side, looks like legislation regarding it is close to being actual law. High fines and prison time for some types of infractions.

So anyone have any idea how it is that Matrix can publish so many great titles while most publishers only have one or two? I don't know how I'm going to afford all of the Matrix games that should be coming out soon that I want.

As I was laid off last week I find myself with lots of time. Hopefully I will be employed by July but I expect to be able to devote serious time to WITP when it's released. And I will buy it despite no job, it is actually cheaper to buy WITP and stay home and play than go out to the movies or eat out, in the long run. And my significant other understands this game is what I want to do with spare time the next few years or so.

Sorry to hear about your layoff, hope it's of short duration and glad to see you're making positive light of it. My own employer (the County of SD) recently laid off some folks too, but I was fortunate to not be one of them.

Hopefully this game will come out in time for all of us to spend the holiday weekend playing it.

That said, I want to go on record as saying that Matrix did the right thing in unveiling the game at Origins. Origins is historically the largest board wargame convention in the US, and where bette to introduce your product to other people who might be interested, but we not aware of your product. My hats off to them for getting a few advanced copies ready to sell there. Each copy that they sold at Origins will help them recover the costs spent for the game, and may even lead to other copies being sold as well. You have to remember that Origins is a GAMA show, and many wargame distributors and retailers were there. You want to have them see the product and maybe pick up a few copies to take back to hobby shops.

Even if they had not sold copies at the show, we probably still would not have been able to get the game any faster. Origins, and to a degree Gencon, has always been about new releases, and when I used to go to one (or both) of the shows each year, it was always coolto be able to pick up copies of stuff that wouldn't be hitting the stores until the week after the convention. It aded to the fun.

Sadly, Gencon is no longer in Milwaukee and the cost vs fun factor of cgoing to Gencon or Origins can't compete with Historicon. For those who don't know, Historicon is in Lancaster, PA July 22-25 and is an internationally known wargaming show. Unlike the others, Historicon is an all miniatures convention. No RPGs, just miniatures. It costs a lot less to attend ($20 admission, all games are free). For a grognard, you have a better chance of finding that historical game from your favorite period. The convention theme this year is D-Day, so there will be a bunch of Normandy invasion games running (10-20), but hundreds of games covering all periods will be going on. I plan to get in on some WWII naval and air battle stuff myself. Shame Matrix isn't coming. I'd bet they could sell a few copies at the ocnvention there as well. I remember Talonsoft used to come back when they were publishing Grigsby Games.

Thanks gunnergoz for the kind words. I have worked for defense contractors since retiring from USN in '98 and these things happen. Usually I've lined up another job and bailed prior to layoff but this time I wasn't as agile. I know what you mean about SD county and city layoffs. I have enjoyed the time off, first time I've been un-employed as an adult so I've been lucky and my finances are good so no immediate concerns. Now time to stop surfin' and back to the resume .

Leaving July 5th for Hawaii. I will be scuba diving, celebrating 10 + 1 year anniversary, and paying respects at Pearl Harbor ...again. Seeing Pearl Harbor always has the effect of turning me into a real diehard Allied Fanboy.

I've been stationed at both Yokosuka and Pearl; There is no substitute for riding into Pearl and seeing Pearl Ridge and Pearl City in the backround behind Ford Island.
