I posted these on other peoples threads, here is what I saw during the last few hours playing Kid's tutorial scenario:

Any time I click on ship view for US side when ship is in a task force, I get CTD. No problem on Japanese side. Is this just a tutorial scenario problem? I first noticed when I tried to scuttle a crippled US APD, CTD.

I also have ZERO combat graphics of US ships, either when attacked by Japanese aircraft or ships in naval combat. The Japanese ships are good. I can see the US aircraft when they attack, either air to air or air vs ship.

Edit: I did a scan of posts in support forum and thought I didn't find an answer. I now see that both problems are unique to scenario 1 after running a good scenario 6 test. I tried Mr Frag's fix (coping file) but didn't work for me so I will call it a night, been a great 1st day with WITP even though the small glitch in tutorial made it less than 100% enjoyable.

No need to comment, I imagine the other thread says it all.

I am having the same issues. Got through Tutorial turn 1 for IJN okay. As soon as I opened an Allied ship in a task force to assign the attached airgroups, I got a CTD. This was a repeatable error. I have all drivers (sound card=Turtle Beach-Santa Cruz) and DX up to date. I emailed my DXdiag to Matrix. Oh well, I can dive into Starshatter and SPWAWGE until the fix is up.

Also-- I am seeing a CTD on scenario 15 Turn 1 first combat. I let the AI go at it to see if I could reproduce the error reported in the othe Crash thread.

This came about due to new artwork coming in that renumbered everything and the tutorial scenario files not being updated to reflect the new numbers (focus was on the *real* scenarios). It happens to people (or so it would seem from the tester cross section) who have non-ATI video cards. Scenario #1 is a copy of #6 with some extra stuff thrown in to play with. You can verify this by loading scenario #6 (Marianas) and clicking on the same ship there and not crashing. Basically, certain types of video cards get annoyed when told to display nothing. Others don't care and simply display a blank picture.

To correct, you can either have some fun with the editor and update the bit map: value in the classes table (just remember to save to a slot in the user designed area), or avoid clicking on individual ships which brings up the picture or:

If you are a do-it-yourself'er, in the Scene directory:

rename wpc001.dat to wpc001.dat.bak (keep a copy in case you need for patch)
copy wpc006.dat to wpc001.dat

Problem fixed. (Unofficially)

here ya go-from Mr.Frag...I did the rename and switch and it's just fine, here..just a 'bad' database.

Grouchy, read the big Game Crashes thread below. It appears that the tutorial didn't get updated for certain last minute graphics changes and that is cause of its problems. Just avoid clicking on any US ship view and save alot in case you forget. The tutorial is not that long, I don't need it now (UV veteran) but some of the newbies might. Too bad that is the initial impression of the game!

Thanks for the replies. I'll try the file naming fix above and give it a try. I am a newbie to UV/WitP and need all the help I can get.

I'm having the same problem - except I'm not getting a CTD - the problem is the boat pic is not appearing when a ship is selected.

==========

I made the change that Frag suggested, and boat pics are back when a ship is selected.

Just wanted to give a heads up to a variant of the same problem

Well I copied wpc006.dat and renamed it to wpc001.dat and I still get CTD in tutorial. Scenario #6 works O.K. when I click on U.S. ship. I have Nvidia 5950 ultra and Audigy soundcard.

I had the same problem last night after applying the fix.I had done the tutorial up to end of the japanese first turn, saved it and had the CTD when selecting a USN ship even after applying the fix.I restarted the tutorial over not using my save file and everything works great.I assume the saved game had the data from the bad wpc001 before I changed it so try giving that a go.

Thanks MarkD34 also. I started a new tutorial this morning and it works great. The swap file fix (see Problems post by Mr Frag on Support Forum) works. I didn't start a new game last night and thought it was still broke. Now on to a new scenario.

And a big thanks to Mr Frag for the fix and for the sticky problem post!

Thanks for already solving my problem before I asked about it!

Would someone post a save game of the tutorial? Say at the end of the Japanese setups? I had the CTD, found the fix (wpc 6 to 1) in the forum and made the fix. Of course I have been studiously saving the game so I started from my last save and, as other people found, you still have the CTD. Then I found this thread. I just don't have the energy to run through the tutorial and set up the Japanese side again

Please post a save game... please

Oh, and perhaps this thread could be made a sticky, or a special sticky thread be added that says "If You Have a Crash in Tutorial, please read". I know that seems overkill, but any CTD problem solutions need to be easily found, IMHO.
