Was playing yesterday the Marianas scenario. Had all eight or so of my flattops sitting right of Saipan. (Spoiler ahead). The IJN send two huge TF's to bombard consisting of Yamato, Musashi, Kongo, Haruna, and a host of CA and CL and DD. Since I dumbly had my carrier's planes set to ground attack they ambushed us at night and got a CVE. However, the carriers and accompanying cruiser fought very well and gave the IJN surface fleet a good thrashing! "They're getting away!" cried one USN carrier seaman as the big enemy battleships peeled off and did a 180. Luckily I also had a bombardment TF sitting in the same hex including Iowa, No. Carolina & other heavies so they also taught the IJN a lesson. Next turn I set all my planes to naval attack and after about eight waves the Haruna, Musashi, and Kongo lay at the bottom, with Yamato sneaking home, tail between legs. Great game, it's neat when you first see all those BB's lined up against each other. All I could think was...wow, those IJN admirals sure got their decisive battle...and lost!
