Hello.

I'm working on a very minor modification to the grand campaign:

I'm adding a few pilots here and there (and maybe a commander or two) to see if they make it through the war or not. Will my alter egos survive? Become aces and/or heroes? Or will they simply sink in the cesspool.

I just thought it was an interesting idea. Anyone else doing something similar?

I had this idea just a few hours ago. I wish there was a way to add in pilots and captains without altering the whole scenario.
Im probably going to make myself a DD captain or a pilot and see if I survive the war.
With my style of play ill make it to probably to the 2nd week of january

I will admit that so far I haven't been able to do the mod properly. I'm actually now reading the editor manual. I figured I would just save the campaign with a new name and slot, add the extra people, put them in place and go. But no, that isn't working. Gotta figure this one out now.

I just thought that adding some "names" to the game would remind me of the human factor. See if little Arnir has made it or not.

It looks easy...
Question, if I want to back up a file...which file do I make copies of?

Good question. I have just loaded the campaign and then saved it in a new slot above 30 with a new name so that I'm not messing with the original. But I can't seem to get the new one to work.

I normally just save a template of the game in a slot using the editor and then use another slot for a working copy.

If you want to do back ups at file level, the files in the scen directory relating to a scenario are:

cam999.dat
scn999.cmt
wpa999.dat
wpc999.dat
wpd999.dat
wpg999.dat
wph999.dat
wpl999.dat
wpp999.dat
wps999.dat

where 999 is the three digit scenatio number. There are also some text files relating to the scenario but I'll assume you don't need to know those.

Have you used both the Scenario editor and the Database editor to create the new campaign?

Yes and no.

I tried using the scenario editor first to create the scenario (copy of 15) and then when trying to load it in database editor, I get an error. Can't remember off the top of my head, but it says something about the aircraft database.

I will try it the other way round, I guess. Still reading the manual, but reading this board more. <G>

If you want to set up a campaign (example scenario 15 mod):

1) Use the scenario editor to load scenario 15 then save it into the slot you want (say 30), then
2) Use the database editor to load scenario 15 (again) then save it into the same slot (30 again).

You should now have a working scenario.

Well, I tried it but I get a file error when opening that slot (I used 4) in the database editor. I get "Cannot open aircraft data file" everytime I try it.

That sounds like you are saving the scenario with the scenario editor into a slot (ie 30) and then attempting to load that slot (30) into the database editor. The files needed by the database editor wont be in slot 30 until you also load the original scenario 15 into the database editor and then save it to slot 30. That completes the process for a working scenario.

The editors create different sets of files, all of which go together to make up the scenario. The scenario editor save creates the campaign condition files while the database editor save creates the unit information.

Okay, gotcha now. And it worked.

Thanks greatly for the assistance.

Oh, btw, I was doing exactly what you thought I was doing.

LOL. Good one!

I'm still rolling.

The check (or cheque, depending on where you are) is in the mail.

Would be nice to have a "rename" function for named pilots/others-or TF's.

I got it to work first try. Its pretty easy.
Heres what you do.

1. Backup whatever scenario your messing with.
2. Open Database editor
3. Find the ship or LCU or squadern you want to edit or be a part of
4. Go to pilots or leaders and find a blank spot (or if your editing, find who you are editing)
5. Fill in the info
6. Save
7. Go check to see if it works

I created myself in a blank pilot spot and added my self to VMF-211 sitting at PH on Dec 7th 1941. I actualy flew a mission that day and didnt get shot down! I didnt get a kill however. I made myself a LTJG in the editor and when I looked in the game I was a CPT. Not sure if this is a bug or if I was promoted due to most of my squadern dieing
