Has anyone run into this problem?

Setup: I'm running SPWAW on a reasonable system (2.0GHz, 512Mb, 128Mb video card) out of Win2k with the latest version of DirectX and the latest Nvidia drivers.

Problem: When I start SP it loads normally (I get the SSI screen, then the credits for the Matrix team, etc.) but then when it goes to the actual switchboard (you know, the screen that says "What do you wish to do, Colonel?" or whatever) the colors of the background photo are just ... horrible. It's like a pink-splashed negative of whatever picture is supposed to be there.

Is this a common problem? Is there an easy fix? I'd like to play the game again (haven't downloaded it since 6.1, I think) but I get to the main switchboard and the pink fills me with such peace and passivity that I can't even begin to think about meeting engagements, interlocking fields of fire, and all that.

I have that problem when I start SP:WAW after I had a graphics program like Photoshop oben.
I don't know the reason, but I just reboot the computer and the graphics are back to normal.

Other tricks could be:

- starting the game with the game.exe
- try switching the dektop resolution and colors

Happened to me once, sort of.

Was in the middle of a game, and the screen went all washed-out like. Your 'negative image' is as good a description as I could come up with.

I restarted and everything was hunky dory.

Well, I changed drivers, changed color depth, changed resolution, all to no avail. Finally got the game running by just running mech.exe ... so now I have a shortcut built for it and it's all good.

That should be included in the readme file...

"Can't get the game to run? Start from mech.exe instead of autorun.exe"

To my surprise, 8.2 works for me from autorun, although 7.1 needed to be started from mech.exe. I use mech.exe anyway, more convenient.

Just downloaded the Game from DR and am having the exact same problems when it gets to the switchboard, neither mech or auto run works nor does fooling with the res. or color settings. Win XP and Nvida with the latest drivers.

Any ideas ?

Black Cat, if you continue to the game. For example select a scenario and start playing, are the colours still messed up?

Another thing you colour-troubled players could try. Go to control panel/display/settings/advanced/troubleshoot and experiment with the 'hardware acceleration' slider. A notch down from maximum may help.

Yes it`s still messed up when stating a game. I have to "paint" the screen with the mouse to even get the pink-purple color to show the screen
