I'm having some trouble with the Unit screen. I was setting some engineers to not clear mines when I noticed that one of my Engineer squad was labelled "Fast Response Artillery". Another Engineer squad was a Recon unit.
An infantry Company HQ platoon has two mortar tracks in it - on is fast response Arty, one isn't.
This is wierd. There are other such issues, can I use the editor to fix this?

What country and what formation types were the units? Yes you can fix it in the editor, but please let me know so I can fix them in the 7.1 OOB set. The manual has a section that explains the formation special code meanings

US Army, the Mech Infantry Platoon HQ Squad and the Mechanised Engineer Platoon. I've done some mixing and matching, but that shouldn't matter, should it? I mean, the Mech Platoon HQ Squad had a pair of M-4 Mortar tracks added, and one of those was the problem. One was fast response, which made sense, the other wasn't.

????? All I did was choose some units and mix and match them during the first deployment phase of my campaign.

Did these units ever get destroyed and repaired? I have a problem with a mortar squad that got destroyed and after getting fixed they became a "recon unit." This is a real nuisance because their response time is 1.0 while the rest of the platoon is .3.
I've tried fixing them in the OOB Editor but they seem to be same as the other five squads in the platoon.

If the problem is a unit in an ongoing campaign, then don't use the oob editor, use the Chlanda editor to edit the save file if it offends you. During a campaign under earlier versions of spwaw, a unit would pick up recon status when it gained enough experiance. I think about v4.5 or 5.0 that was supposed to have been taken out. Maybe it wasn't. If you play with C&C on, recon status is a great thing to gain, no more orders to move plus extra sighting ability.
thanks, John.

OK - where do I get this "Chlandra editor"???? Why was the recon status taken out? that was a terrific reflection of experience. As units get better, they often develop a good feel for their commander's intent, they absorb more during the pre-combat briefing, they are able to demonstrate more initiative without the CO telling them to do it.

The Chlandra editor is inculded with the game under the SPWAW folder, just use the start button programs and then SPWAW folder you'll find nice utilities within.

Thank you. There *are* some interesting things there. I rarely use the start button. V-man

OK - I've gone into the Chlanda editor and saw NO WAY to change the status of these units. Some of thes eunits have contradictory (or close to it) statuses. An ENGINEER unit that still will clear mines or place them, but is also *FAST RESPONSE ARTY*. I saw no where that would adjust these things. help! please!!!

I´ve seen things like this happen, if in Steel Panthers Editor, you change a mortar type unit to something completely different with "Change curent unit to different type " function, ....infantry f.e.
Somehow the changed unfantry unit still has the mortar or dedicated artillery flag assigned!? ___________

I've used the Chlanda Editor and checked the properties of all six mortar squads. They all seem to have the same data. What, exactly, should I be looking for?

Did Paul send you a copy of the save files I sent him? If so, then look at units T & Y. The 105 CS tank and the Flame tank in Y will be fast response arty.
In formation E, one of the two mortars is a Recon unit, the other is Fast Response arty.

I also checked this again and found that you cannot remove the wrong class information with Freds editor! (unit data screen --> "class - red box" upper right corner.) Seems that the data is stored elsewhere in the DAT file and is nor editable with the available editors. Changing "class" in Freds Editor yields no change here. Maybe avoiding the "change unit to different type" function is preferable. Try "re-attaching" original units to new HQ instead might help you getting desired formations? ________

Hey All: You can change the info you've been talking about with Fred's Editor.... it's just not a one step process. Using Fred's editor, you have to load the saved game that you want to modify. Then you have to save it as a CSV file. All the info is rewritten and saved in a new file with a ".csv" extension. This is in comma seperated data format and you can use excell and I assume ither spreadsheets to edit it. The info that you need to edit is in a column labeled HL. These are the unit special classes: 0,1,2,10,11,12 If I remember correctly, 0 is average, 1 recon, 2 fast response artillery, 10 is elite, 11 is elite recon, 12 is elite fast response arty. After editing with excell, save. Use the editor again and open the saved game file. Past the csv file into the saved game file and save the saved game. This only effects the special classes in the saved game. If they are not to your liking in the oob then you use the oob editor to edit the specials class in the formation section of the oob. Hope this helps, Fred has given us some fantastic tools for this game. You can do just about anything with this editor and excell. I even use it to ressurrect the dead after there was a case of mad driver disease going around, and building crashes were the rule.

It works! I was able to turn a mortar unit that was designated a recon unit back to fast response arty.

Good work,..dogfish!
Seems I just missed this solution. Always yet undiscovered secrets with Freds programs to be found! Praise Fred Chlanda! __________
