I don't know about any one else...but 8.2 has been on big pain.

The crash to desktop rate has far surpassed any previous version I have had on my machine...to the point where I am ready to unistall it.

Ken, I'm certain that you got a corrupted copy. I'm also certain that one of the community can send you a fresh CD.

I have had 3 CtD in the Stalingrad Campaign so far. That is three more than I have ever had. None today at all, but I only played one scenario.

I had one crash with a download from some mirror site. I downloaded from another and have had no problems on XP. I do make sure I free system memory before playing.

At the risk of asking a stupid question, but your system still runs other comparable games yet still?

Myself, I don't really experience CTD for like really anything. 8.2 included.

Is it remotely possible you have hardware issues?

Nope, just replaced just about everything. All other versions of sp[7.1,7.1hth,8.0hth] work fine with no ctd.

On previous versions I would suffer a CtD maybe once in 100 plays. On 8.2 my crash rate is probably 30-40%!

I am going to try a new install and see if maybe the copy I received had a corrupted file or two.

I am noticing that the majority of my CtD's come on mid to large size scenarios after about a dozen turns or so...when the carnage is usually starting to pile up.

Everyone knows that SPWaW is a notorious memory hog, but maybe the tweaks in the 8.2 mech.exe exacerbated this problem. This is just conjecture, but it should be looked into. However, I haven't had a single crash in either the testing phase or my long campaign battles.

Orzel, let us know how the new install checks out.

I've recently installed SPWAW 8.2 on three different computers and they are all functioning normally.

After all these comments, seems like it might just be Karma.

Go take mom or someone else's mom if need be, out to lunch then try it :)

Hey it can't hurt hehe.

Orzel, from which site or mirror did you download the game? IF a corrupted download exists, we need to find the source of it.

I'm getting spontaneous CTD. I was just poking around in the LOTR OOB file Jess posted and I kept getting crashes.

We are not amused!

Pretty sure it was Worthplaying.

I'm downloading it again and I'll reinstall it to see what happens.

Ok, the Gamers Hell sites seem to be reliable. I would recommend avoiding FilePlanet and Worthplaying for now.

Now my v8.01 is crashing all the time. I must have done something to screw up a delicate balance that I didn't know existed. This really sucks!

I got my copy from GamersHell, too, and running it smoothly, both on XP Pro and MilleniumEdition machines.

Is anyone else who's having problems running Win98? I'm running 98SE and am having the same CTD problem. On top of that the autosave feature doesn't seem to be working correctly so when I do CTD, I lose everything in the scenario I'm in (I usually only save at the end of each one). I'm pretty sure I downloaded the file from Fileshack, so I'm trying the Gamers Hell one. I'll report back in with my results.

No CTD so far. Please, those who receive some CDT more frequently watch carefully game messages and save the Combat.txt file with ALT-L! If it´s not a corrupted download, then more info is needed on particular scenario that crashes. Might help to find out what causes the CDT in particular.
