WWII version of Pirates of the Carribean!

The victim is Kinugawa Maru.

That photo just too well known.

A ship rearing back on its hind legs, so it can jump over the line of surf, get up on the beach and lay eggs and rear its young.

One hardly ever gets a photo of this, however. Ships generally only do this in the dark of the moon on deserted beaches.

Cocos nucifera L. The "L" was one of the late war variants with improved trunk length, improved glacis thickness and slope, a superior cluster geometry and improved husk armour. These were often employed in the beach defence role. Though obsolescent now, many remain in Vanuatu and the Soloman Islands defence organizations.

This shot was also used as background in SSI's Greatest Naval Battles 2 Which focused on the Solomons and was a GREAT game, think great grandfather to UV.

BTW is the ship still there or has it been scraped?

Gives a decent description of what it is now...as well as other wrecks if you surf around the site.

Damned if I'm not getting a reputation! Can ya tell from some of my posts? Kinda blunt and perhaps rude! Should be running a tea room.
