This appears to have been seen in earlier versions of SPWaW and I have just seen it in 8.2. This was a clean install of The Generals Edition. Occasionaly the screen blanks and moving the mouse leaves a trail of blocks with map segments showing. If you click any where on the screen the whole screen will reappear. At first I thought it might be a heat issue but then it happened right after I turned the computer on. It can happen anytime in game or even at the menu where you pick the game type you want to play. I saw a post where someone said to delete the steel.prf file which may solve the problem. I can't seem to find the steel.prf file in 8.2 to delete. Is that a solution and if so where is the file?
Any insight into this glitch would be greatly appreciated! Thnx a bunch.

I had this problem when i installed it on my laptop running xp. The victory hexes disappeared also. I have heard that deleting the steel.prf will work. Try search steel.prf only one file should pop up. thats the one.

The Steel.prf file is located in the SPWaW/save folder. I delete this on a regular basis, as this is a problem-maker after several scenarios in a long campaign. However, don't forget to reset your preferences after deleting the old one . You can do this at anytime, but it's best to do it after restarting the game and before you start a new/loaded scenario/campaign.

This happens to me when a background application tries to do something like show a dialog box or tell you you have email or something. It tries to redraw the screen but SPWaW immediately retakes control of the video. Unfortunately it seems that it doesn't refresh the video memory until you do something like move the mouse (and even then it only replaces where the mouse has left because it draws the pointer over the original graphics and when the mouse moves on it redraws what was underneath, in this case what was supposed to be there in the first place) or press a key or mouse button (must refresh on any action I guess). I usually just right click and the whole screen comes back.

The moral of the story is, I close all other apps than Steel Panthers when I play and it seems to alleviate the issue for the most part. Outlook seems to be the major culprit in my experience.
