My guess is a 75mm pack howitzer on the right, a GMC truck on the left and a lost shoe in the middle.

And if i am not mistaken the Palm tree on the left is a Acoelorrhaphe wrightii!

I also believe the shoe is a left threaded 6 European size (the other one is still missing to this day), the pack howitzer is loaded with a shell that has "Happy Christmas Tojo" painted on it and the GMC was built in 1941 by a guy called Bob!

The gun is not a pack howitzer, it looks like a 37MM antitank gun. It might be a 57MM, but I think that had a split carriage, where the rear supports split out to give the more powerful gun more stability. Most of the 75 pack howitzers I have seen do not have the crew shield on them, and if they did, they would have an embrasure in the middle, so you could elevate the howitzer for longer ranged, plunging fire.

I think you misreading the pic

that is not backblast from the little gun being fired, that is somebody shooting at them (or something else going off)

looks like a 37mm and it is still in limber

Ya somthing else is going off, as noted above the M3 is still limbered, prety cool action shot though. [Could be a rifle grenade from the man on the far right]

Looks like a tank or direct fire artillery blast directed at the AT gun that was just a little bit off target

From the position and orientation of the men and the direction of the blast I'd say someone has thrown demo into a cave or something hidden off the side of the road and it's exploded. The AT gun isn't prepped for firing and if someone was shooting at them you'd think they'd be diving for cover not crouching and waiting for it to clear.
