i have glanced at both game screens and they appear very similar.....if i learn the mechanics of one does that mean i can play both of them....in other words do they have the same features and mechanics of play except one is WWII and one is modern?

thanks, Bill

Sort of... sort of not.

Both games use the same basic engine, but W@W has been refined far more than MBT.

The crucial difference is that MBT uses abstract armour values whereas W@W attempts to use realistic armour values. Not sure about the penetration formula.

MBT will automatically fire all units that get opportunity fire for AI and human... W@W gives the human the option to fire 2, but AI seems to fire more.

Also, MBT have removed the limit on OOB size (something I hope MG is investigating for the future).

Finally, MBT needs too look at the Move value of their tanks... I find that it is frustratingly slow.

No doubt other players will have other views... I've deleted MBT in frustration at the inability of MGs to do any damage to infantry at near point blank ranges...

Oh. I think SPWAW vehicles are going _way_ too fast, but well, we are just two different people I guess.

I believe SPWAW is based on the SP3 engine while SPMBT/SPWW2 are based on the SP2 engine. Also, as one would know, SPWAW has been ported to windows and is technically more modern of appearance and otherwise, except for the OOBs getting sort of cramped.

The games do, however, roughly play the same - so if you like one you'll probably like the other (though some have their favourites).

SPWaW is built on the Steel Panthers 3 Brigade Combat software, and then it was mucho modified tweaked fussed over and generally enhanced.

SPMBT is really just very enhanced Steel Panthers 2 Modern Battles, which shares a lot of similarities with the originator program SSI Steel Panthers.

Basically, if you figure out how to play one, you have mostly mastered playing all of them. But they tend to have their own quirks under the hood.
You only notice the details when you crawl around in the editor or wander around through the details of each unit one by one.

But to just play them, they have a lot of similarities.
They have differing sounds and differing looks which often are only cosmetic.

If you are a very exacting sort of gamer, you will have to really play the heck out of both before you can reeeeeeally feel the differences though.

Be wary of some of us pros though :) we come equipped with a lot of personal biases as standard options hehe

With regards to tank speed the T-34 has an official road speed of 34mph, and in W@W an off-road speed of 16mph (through plain terrain). When I used a Cenurion in MBT off road through plain terrain it had a speed of 5mph with an official rating of 22mph road speed.

Thus MBT tanks are running at about 50% of their maximum speed. I believe that this is a "left over" from the core SP builds.

I'm about to replace my Windows 2000 with Windows XP so I can play SPMTB . . . just curious, which countries are included? What's the date range on the equipment? Any screenshots of the battle set-up screen that someone could post would be most appreciated . . .

First off, good luck with XP and your mouse, you might need it :)

Acording to the program, these countries appear "included"

USA USMC Britain France W Germany Russia Greece Norway Denmark E Germany Australia Canada Netherlands China Spain S Africa Turkey Ital India N Korea Hungary Czech Poland Romania S Korea Belgium Japan Lybia Yugoslavia Egypt Syria Iraq Switzerland Albania Gulf States Iran Jordan PLO Israel Taiwan N Vietnam Viet Cong S Vietnam Pakistan Afganistan Algeria Cuba Brazil Cyprus Austria Argentina Thailand Cambodia Chile Nigeria Chad Lebanon Sudan Sweden Finnland Saudi Arabia Ethiopia Kenya Indonesia Malaysia Portugal UN Eritrea Yemen Ecuadar El Salvadar Nicuragua Peru Rhodesia Uganda Tanzania Somolia Bulgaria

Assuming the presence of the flags is indicative they are present :0
