Hi,

Originally when I installed the game I got the 722 fault. No problems after installing the two original patches bringing the SW up to 1.10. Yesterday I installed 1.20 on top of the rest and it was OK.
Today I decided to install the game on my second computer. Since I read that 1.20 is enough I just installed the original SW plus the 1.20 patch.
When I tried to start the game I got the 722 fault immediately.
Adding the 1.10c patch and the registration patch fixed the problem and I had no problems after installing the 1.20 patch on top of this.

Are you really sure that 1.20 includes everything from 1.10 and the registration patch??

Regards

Good question, since theres others I'm sure who have not patched at all, having waited for an official vis a vis a stop gap patch.

I've had no CtD, 772 etc on original install and I'd hate after going from 1.00 to 1.20 having problems

Well, I sure hope this is not the case for everyone.

1.20 should have included everything that was in 1.10c + Registration patch as far as the 772 error is concerned. I tested a final version on a Win98 machine that could duplicate the 772 error and it was not present. I will now download the posted version and re-test to see if something went wrong in terms of which revision made it onto the server. Thanks for the feedback. In the meantime, here's the 1.10d patch again. If you have the 772 error with 1.20, please apply 1.10d then 1.20 in that order.

Regards,

- Erik

howdy all,

erik, i am having the exact same problem only there are no stop gap patches to load anymore on the web site. I finally got the 1.20 downloaded and installed, thanks to you and getright, only to have no results. the fatal error 772 is still all i get when trying to start the game. can you put the thread for 1.10 and the other patch back on the web site so that i can download them, and try again.

still dead in the water, ralph

Hi,

I can't duplicate this at all and I confirmed that the 1.20 patch includes the same fix that was in the 1.10 / Reg Patch. The Win98 computer that duplicated the 772 error for me still does it with 1.00 but it's fixed with 1.00 + 1.20. Can you please post system specs and also please confirm that you've tried uninstalling everything and reinstalling 1.00 + 1.20 just to make sure there are no other oddities at work? Thank you, it may save what hair I have left.

Regards,

- Erik

Hi Erik,

Not much hair left on me either and nearly lost the rest today when I tried recreating the problem and failed twice.
Finally I remembered that I didn't run the patch update from a file on the machine that I was installing it on but across the network from another machine.
So this is how I recreated it:
I installed the game on computer A from a CD on the same machine.
I installed the patch on computer A across the network from computer B.
When I started the game it failed with Error 772.

After that I removed the game again. I repeated the installation but before installing the patch I copied the file from computer B onto computer A and then I installed the patch locally. This time the game started without a problem.

I'm including a file from Dxdiag which I hope is the information you need about the system.

Please let me know if you want me to try something or test something. I'll be working tomorrow so it might take some time to respond but I'll do my best.

BPRE,

That's odd, the test I did was an over-network installation on a machine that manifests 772 in 1.00 and the 1.20 patch still fixed it. It's remotely possible (so it must be happening in your case) that if the network causes significant delays the information might not be written at the proper time during the installation. Still, very odd. As long as it works with a local installation, I'm not going to worry much about this.

Anyone else who has this problem with a 1.00 + 1.20 clean installation, please let me know your specifics as well.

Thanks for the extra troubleshooting, BPRE. Much appreciated.

Regards,

- Erik

Hi Eric

I have installed WiTP and patched it to 1.2 but I am getting error 771 (not 772!) after starting the game. I am running on Win2k.

Thanks

Hi Erik,

Interesting info about the delays. As usual I forgot a small piece of information that fits in with this. It's a WLAN and although the connection is OK it's not the best so delays are not at all impossible.

As for appreciation I'm glad if I can help. Thank you for your prompt support and a great game. I've been waiting for this ever since I heard about the plans. Must be something like 5 years ago.

Have you tried a clean uninstall/reinstall 1.00 + 1.20 + 1.21 yet? Did you see this with version 1.00? I'm not sure what 771 is, but I will ask the developers and hopefully have an answer tomorrow.

Regards,

- Erik

howdy erik,

just a quick note to thank you for the support the last 3 days. after several combination's of install's, i have the game up and running. i can hardly wait to back to it. i too have been waiting years for this software. a few more days figuring out how to open it was worth it. i wish that i could be of more help to you about what the problem was. all that i can say is that the last combination that i used was the orginal 1.20 patch by itself, after an uninstall-reinstall, and it took. maybe previous tries with 1.10d broke something loose, maybe not, but i did not use it at all on the last try. i sent another message about this to my other post which somebody moved to the front of the forum. anyway, i am very happy to be up to speed and back on course.

your's, ralph

i did that. clean installed 1.00, and updated to 1.20 and 1.21; no problems whatsoever.

Hi, Eric.

I did a clean re-install of 1.00 + 1.20 and got 771 again. After that i kicked the walls a bit and decided to do it again but this time as an admin user rather then my regular login. Guess what, to my delight, it worked...

Thanks

Starsis,

Sorry, should have thought of that. Glad you have it up and running now, I'll note that in my file for future questions. Appreciate your posting the solution here.

- Erik
