Ok heres a new one.

Updated my vidio drivers to the newest GeForce drivers (61.77), and now I get "Fatal Error 774" on startup. Dropped back to the last driver version (61.76) and still have the same error.

WiTP v1.21
Ti4200
Win XP
AMP 1900+
512 Meg RAM.

Any thoughts?

All I can say is I am going to do a Ghost image before I update the drivers.

Two Things

1. Delete your steel.prf in your main folder, try starting up again.

If that does not work.

2. Uninstall the game, and then install it again and apply patches. You can save your games somewhere else so you do not lose them.

Just a thought.

Hmmm, I don´t see how this should be related. you possibly corrupted your registry during the install (or only parts of it).

I recommend a clean install and patching up to v1.21

Reloading everything from v1.10 -> v1.21 did the trick. I was even able to load the latest video drivers, no problem.

Thanks all.

Did you remember to uninstall your old Nvidea drivers AND turn off background programs such as firewalls BEFORE installing the new drivers?

SunDevil,
A failure to do either will cause the new drivers to improperly install and will cause all sorts of problems.
You have to uninstall and restart the computer and then install the new drivers without ANY background programs running especially virus scans and firewalls or (despite an apparant success) you will fail grasshopper!
Gary

I'm betting all these 774 errors are caused by past installs or new ones not properly implemented in graphic cards. Not all games choke on this all the time but this one seems to be sensitive.

Don't forget to do Directx 9.0c as the new Nvidea drivers are 'tuned' for this upgrade as well.

I did both and my game runs 3X faster and it was quick before!

Gary Again

I did all that and the new driver set would not load right. I couldn't even go back to my old one. But, I did have
a Ghost Image and restored fine. Since I am not having any problems with WitP, I think I will leave it for now.

WHat, reinstall the old driver first? I have never done that, and never had a problem. Wierd.

Yes, I did remember to that. Second time was the charm, not sure why. Something must not have released the first time around.
