Greetings and salutations,
I recall there being a few pieces of enemy armor in the OOBs for a couple of different countries. I believe that the Germans can, at one point, use captured T-34s (I don't remember the exact version). Also, I know that there are PzIIIs and PzIVs in the Russian OOB.
The "realistic" way to do this in a campaign or the long World War 2 Campaign would be to only use these units as replacement tanks for crews that lost their original ride (i.e. when you fix/change them between battles, use the captured armor rather than a replacement PzIII). Of course, if you wanted true realism, you should note how many enemy tanks were abandoned at the end of the battle and restrict yourself to this many units during the fix/change stage.
I haven't gotten to the point where I have needed to use this tactic yet, but I think it would be interesting to have my armor be reduced to a "rag-tag" collection of T-34s and some captured German PzIIIs and PzIVs.
There are also probably some good possibilities here for campaign and scenario designers. Perhaps it would be possible to create a small campaign detailing the exploits of a unit that gets caught behind enemy lines for an extended period of time? Is it possible to restrict the player selections during the fix/change phase so the only new armor that could be purchased would be "captured" enemy armor, representing that the unit has had its supply lines cut?
Okay, enough rambling. I hope this helps.
