Received MCLV via Priority Mail this morning, Chips & Bits uses the PO, it works up here in Michigan is all I can say, furthermore they ship same day if in stock, no sitting around for UPS to pick up the order as is currently going on with the copy I ordered from Matrix.
No problem at all with installation, I even installed over a copy revised many times and all seems to have gone well. No nested directories, and the first screen from mech.exe boot shows v7.1 as current.
Questions, please:
1) The mech.exe that comes with the CD I got is dated 1/18/2002, size is "2,913KB" according to Win Explorer. Is this the mech.exe that contains the "synch" fix??? I got what appears to be a truly fresh copy, which is good going all the way around.
2) First scenario, crossing of the San River. Tracked and wheeled vehciles cannot cross the river.
Is this the way it was intended to be?
Why have the vehicles in this scenario if that is the case? The HT's sit on the bank and look for trees to machine gun?? I don't get it. There are no bridges and no fords, either, I"ve been to every hex on the river and no go. What am I missing here in my blissful ignorance??
3) Sound works kind of funny. First time I started the first scenario, the crickets were louder than the artillery barrage - no kidding. What's with crickets and designers anyway? I"ve fired up scens that took place middle of winter and the sound of crickets has been deafening.
But: I turned off all sound exept "Unit", ran the opening, then got out, deleted the save file, ran the barrage, turned the battlefield and terrain sounds back on and the crickets are in the background, as they should be.
4) Are the voice tracks later in the campaign as seriously overmodulated as the very first one? I hope not. Sound splattering all over the place, fairly high distortion of voice, however the sound once in the game is extremely clear.
(Turtle Beach Santa Cruz and Monsoon MM-1000 speakers.)
Thanks for help on these issues, whoever will answer.
