And here we go! There's 24 turns to bring victory for the Germans. Over 100 Soviet divisions will oppose this advance, although they will be scattered and ripe for (hopefully) envelopment. I've gotten off quickly; in the center of the map three divisions (the 6th Infantry Division and 14th and 20th Motorized Divisions) move to envelop Vitebsk. Two assault gun battalions bring up support, and an attack on the 439th Rifle Regiment of the 155th Rifle Division causes heavy losses for them (2 steps) but one for me (one step). They retreat across the northern part of the river. I hope to move the 6th Division up into Vitebsk and surround the 155th completely, thereby freeing the 14th and 20th Motorized Divisions to advance further eastwards (eventually, to Smolensk). Meanwhile, just to the south, the 26th and 110th Infantry Divisions contact two Soviet rifle divisions, the 144th and the 73rd. Both are on the other side of a river, and look like they have reinforcements to the west. I need to cross that river soon to avoid any combat penalties there. Otherwise I am moving in the south against Mogilev and several Soviet formations, with four divisions, mostly Panzer. The river here is wide, and I'm looking to flank them a few miles to the north once reinforcements arrive. The Germans cannot afford to early on get involved in a static battle; there's simply too much ground to cover and too little time. I've played this scenario once before but not to its conclusion, so here's hoping I don't blunder it up!
