Command and control in Windows XP was apparently not working in Version 7.0. Does ver. 7.1 start to deal with this???
I bought MCLV and prefer to play on my main machine with XP.

Its my understanding that C+C not working in the Megacampaigns w/ WinXP is a known issue and that the programmers are currently at a loss why its even a problem. As of about two weeks ago they had no idea what was causing C+C not to work.

This is an unresolved issue - C2 works fine in non-MC games under XP (or Win 2k or NT) but causes a crash in the MC. The code is the same, the calls are teh same, one works the other doesn't. Why the same code works one time and not the others only Bill Gates knows for sure... Unfortunately a great many "compatibility problems" are due to teh increasingly slipshod driver implentations new sound and video cards are showing up with. AS MS comes out with DX versions faster than you can write debugged drivers for them (Dx9 is out to developers now... ) The hardware comapnies are not writing very good drivers since they have to rewrite them as soon as debugged versions would be out... The problem is becoming serious as I don;t think there has been a game (not wargame - ANY game) that worked on 100% of PC's right out of the box. Workarounds can be found in 98% of teh cases, but with 1000's of permutations and combinations of hardware and software, its phyiscally impossible to test all the combos. We, like everyone else is working on this, but until Dx and the drivers stabilize the game industry is stuck holding the bag becasue our "products don't work" and M$ says "well DX n+1" will fix that...

Thanks for that clear explanation. I'm a hobbyist programmer so I wondered the extent of the problem. Since I bought the MC-LV disk with 7.0 on it, I'll just load it onto my old computer = P2-450/Voodoo3 192MB Win98SE That's what backup computers are for ZoomBoy
